Thoughts on FFXI, then and now

I used to play multiple accounts, one of which had 5 75s and 100s of mil of gear. Now I just started a new account, and have 20THF and 20WAR. Rank 3.

To compare:

OLD FFXI:
You knew the people. But they were almost all assholes.
Impossible to get a claim at an NM.
Hard to find a party.
Tons of gilsellers
Gil was impossible to get, and everything costs MILLIONS or TENS OF MILLIONS

NEW FFXI:
You don't know most of the people, but they all seem fairly nice and helpful.
You are probably the only person at the NM camp.
Easier to find a party because anybody above your level can jump down to your level.
No visible gilsellers, but sometimes you get a /tell from a gilseller advertisement
Gil is impossible to get, but things rarely cost above 100k unless its EXTREMELY rare (pcc 1m, KC 40m)

Obviously I can't yet report on the status of grounds kings/botting/WotG/high lvl stuff, but at this point its still fun, and seems even better, with nicer people. I recommend this game more now than before.

Well I'm thinking about coming back again with my 60 Ninja, Crone on Valefor. Trying to find some old friends to play with

I agree FFXI has gotten better over time. I just came back recently after taking a year+ long break, and it's amazing how much easier it is to get parties and camp NMs compared to before...I hope this trend keeps continuing because FFXI was just too brutal and harsh in the past. ._.

My hope is that they'll take all the things they learned from making FFXI and start XIV off with those sort of things from the get-go. The game would be MUCH MORE SUCCESSFUL than it was, and perhaps longer-standing, too.

Like... level-syncing was a fucking great addition... and the ability to keep your equipment and it being scaled. The exp ring stuff, and the tactics books that you could use were great too. It encouraged a pace rather than a grind. I always thought WoW was better with that because they had the thing called 'rested exp' where you got 2x more exp if you hadn't been playing for a while, for a certain amount of time depending on how long you had been logged out and in an inn... But now XI has similar things. :)

11 didn't have rested xp that I saw! and not playing for a while would make me feel ill. I wanna be XPing right now on my DRG but no cash to play. and juggling girls is time consummingggg, and can be rough with timing sometimes, so its hard to find videogame time for non multiplayer things. mario kart and new mario wii though are amazing fun!
