Atomos and Cait Sith are not avatars. If they are, there's no proof as the game does not call them avatars. Not yet.
So they just lied all this time unless they are adding them later this month. Right now the gear added in this update is the only thing I care about.
Calling this a major update was a bit too much. The only major thing it had was the annoyance of going through Shantotto's missions and trying to find a group to finish them. I haven't even started the WotG quests but I already know that no one is doing them, even if the rewards are great.

The joke was that SE did say that they would be adding new avatars to the game. BUT at no point did they say they would be just for the players. So there are two new avatars in the game and SE was right.

Just do what most SMN have done. Forget they ever said they were adding Avatars and adopt the great mentallity of "I'll believe it when I see it." That way you're never dissappointed! If they do come out with Avatars, great! So nice of them to make do on a promise made YEARS ago. If they don't add any, big deal, not expecting them to.

A small ray of hope left is in the 3rd part of this update near the end of this month, after that.............all hope is lost or whatever is left of this hope I speak of.

A good way to "fix" some issues with blm is to add Stoneskin/Blink/Aquaveil and possibly Gravity to SCH as sub. If BLM could use it as a subjob all these comparisons with SCH wouldn't exist. Then again they still need something to be invited in parties but SMNs are in the same boat here.

I received the update newsletter the other day and they obviously don't mention avatars. Granted that they'd want to keep it secret I think we got trolled once again and that we won't see anything except the new crafting at the end of the month.
I seriously hope someone makes an interview asking them how we use these new avatars, it would be a fun read at least.

I agree with some of this but at the same time I don't. I do think that BLM needs something new just to freshen up the job however I do not think they need something to pull them ahead of SCH. I feel like SCHs and BLMs are pretty on par with each other. Yes its true that SCH is more versatile and can fill more than one role but if you really just want to play a nuker than BLM is obviously a better option for you. Melee jobs all have to try to compete for being the "best melee job" or at least be close enough where its a matter of which job you like playing. Why should BLM be the sole king of damage?

They clearly said "by this time, next year" at Fanfest in 2008 so they were obviously trolling us. That or they couldn't "finish" the avatars for this update and they rushed a job update just to keep us happy. Because only a rushed job can produce something like Avatar's Favor.
I'm hoping SMN is not a pet job in XIV at this point lol, they obviously have no clue how to implement them properly. Back to old school summoning.
You can hope for the second update later this month/early next month but I've honestly lost all hope at this point. I'm now waiting for WotG missions and Castle Z./Walk of Echoes additions.
Other than that I enjoyed ASA and the new quests a lot, those alone were worth the wait despite being over so soon. Now I wanna see what they come up with to fill the lack of add-on missions.
And yay for Shadow Lord statue lol, I have all three on a mule so I'll make her win this one too <.< My main is only collecting exp or BCNM entry items at this point.

Well then I pretty much have lost all hope. I am sure some people will say "You were still hoping for a new avatar? Wut? I gave up hope years ago!" But with all those recent comments made by SE I had to beleive because I REALLY want new avatars. I give up for the most part. If next update does not have the avatars then I guess they are trashed for good.

The following sentence gets old, so I won't spend much time on it. I left FFXI about 1 year ago after playing for 5-6 years ago. My sole reason was simply that SE kept saying we were getting avatars for years and we never get them. It was really dejecting.


Well, thinking back on it, it makes sense. They've spent the last 4, almost 5 years developing FFXIV. I can't say I'm saddened really, I'd prefer they spend time on 14 instead. Some mild graphics and changes to abilities in FFXI are much easier to implement than a fully balanced 3D being used by players. It takes time; time they were probably spending trying to work on all of FFXI and FFXIV at the same time. Kudos to them, it must of be really pressuring to do both. I'll wait and see what they do, but I likely will not be returning to FFXI with FFXIV (and beta) right around the corner. I'd prefer waiting for avatars there instead of in FFXI, as much as I loved it.
