As far is i can remember from the interview at last fanfest it said we will be asking how to use them at next fanfest not this time next year. I havent heard of a fanfest this year so really they probably wont be out till middle of 2010...... thats if they are released at all.

I clearly remember them saying "by this time, next year" and not "next fanfest". They also said that the avatars were "right around the corner" in June so I'm really interested to know their definition of "right around the corner" at this point.
I find it pretty funny that it's taking them longer to add 2 avatars to FFXI than developing a FF game.
There was no need to announce new avatars so soon, just shock us in one update instead of promising them for years.

I remember a topic here or on alla with the interview from the last fanfest and it did say "next fanfest you will be asking how to use them". Ive found the topic where it says by next year but there isnt an official interview to back that up. Ive also found in another thread spira saying "Its not next fanfest yet" should be in the avatar speculation thread. Tbh i think this "Next year" thing was probably made up by some idiot somewhere on the net trying to get everyones hopes up that or its chinese whispers and its gone from next fanfest to next year.

Besides how can we ask them how to use them unless its a patch a month or 2 before next fanfest. I mean if we got them a year before we would have figured out how to use them and we wouldnt need to ask about anything.
