Final Fantasy 14 comment if you switched or switching from FFXI to FFXIV

I noticed many keep leaving FFXI by the hundreds within the past few years.
Has FFXI really lost its self to the rest of the online role playing games?
I recently reactivated my FFXI account with my character Avazen to give me a past time.
I tried Wizards 101, Empire, Adventure Quest, Mech Quest, and others and am totally bored with them all.
I even tried Warcraft and got bored with that one also.
For some reason, I keep finding myself coming back to FFXI for one single reason ... this is the one game that grew my confidence and had many that was willing to learn from me and others.
I miss that. Now that all I have known are gone from FFXI for good, is there any way to regain that commeraderie once again?
It would be great to have organized virtual social networks ingame once again where everyone gets along and there is no bickering, bashing, or flaming others for no particular reason.

FFXI forces group contentm thus you meet lots of cool people, thus making friends and saying goodbye when you're not dying and just a click away is awkward.

Most all online games I play, I return to at some point. I'll reactivate WoW soon to kill time til FFXIV.

You were actually very good at WoW, it's too bad you quit when the 2nd expansion came out. Back in BC, you had to be revered to be able to do heroics and get good gear, now, you just have to be level 80 (preferrably have some non-heroic gear so you're not being carried. The 3rd expansion is coming out probably next year and things are going to get shaped even further. At least i'll have something to fall back on IF... FFXIV sucks, it's just too bad I can't sit in my livingroom and play WoW on my 1080p HDTV without having to upgrade certain components, etc.

i'm not wasting my time with 14 unless it's free-to-play. call me cheap if u want, but i played ffxi for 6 years and had to pay for 2 accounts for the majority of that time. basically i ended up spending well over 2k on that game and that doesn't include the snacks or alcohol i consumed while playing.

tl;dr: i'm not gonna play because i have better shit to spend my cash on

You could always--as crazy as it sounds--pay for just one account. And God forbid people stop playing their MMOs to have real meals instead of getting their only nutrition from doritos and hot pockets just so they don't to leave their chair. >_>

And maybe it is time to stop sitting alone and drinking while playing an MMO, because despite what you may think, that isn't any different than sitting alone drinking without playing an MMO.

I'm sure a lot of people are relieved to know FFXIV is supposed to be significantly less time-consuming compared to FFXI, which should make a real life a little more possible even when you're a part of end-game.

I honestly hope there is no real form of end-game in FFXIV, but that is just wishful thinking. Gotta have a reason to advance your character after-all.

Not anything specific in this thread but I love how everyone is like YEAH im gone!! screw ffxi that waste of time!, then they are like oh I can't wait for ff14 though I'll see you guys there! Lol hypocritical and they need to realize that you aren't forced to spend your time on the game. You can always take a break and only play certain amount of time per day. FFXI a great game, and if you are trying to say you wasted all your time playing because you gained nothing, what were you expecting to gain in the first place? Once you start you are already "wasting" time according to that logic, so if having fun means nothing why play in the first place. In the end it is just another form of entertainment, people just demonize it because its the internets.

That, and the fact that it is designed so that it's hard to control how much of your time you play it, therefore you end up wasting time that you didn't mean to use for entertainment. And the addictive(to the community, not the game) factor I guess.

when you share a bank account with your wife, and she also plays the game, it's kinda hard to only pay for 1 of the accounts. and the beer drinking was with friends on vent. if you've never played a game of power-hour during HNM camping, you have never played the game. what the hell makes you think you know me well enough to think i spent that time eating junk food and sitting on my ass? i spent the majority of my time afk doing other stuff, which is why i ended up quitting in the end.

GL to you in XIV, but i still won't be seeing you in it lol

How is it hard to control how much time you play it? You don't wanna d s omething don't do it, leave at least 30m before you leave a party to try and find a rep. If you need to go you need to go, don't have to play if you are needed somewhere in RL.

I'd like to play FFXIV, but my current failure at life suggests I won't have the financial resources to afford a new computer (as mine is slowly but surely uttering its own death knells), or even a subscription fee.

It's against my religion to play an MMO on a console.

That's what i'm doing too. I didn't want to play FFXI on PS2 just because it was purely standard def, but with FFXIV being high def and having a bigger TV, I can MMO in the comfort of my suede leather couch.

I'd like to play on PS3, but the only thing I'm afraid of, is SE failing at the UI or character status information, therefore players coming up with third party tools to show what should have been shown in the first place (just like FFXI.) And besides, PC to TV connectivity [Do you have it?]

Lastly, I like to surf the web and IM or check e-mail while playing games. I don't want to have to turn back and forth between TV and PC. :[

But sadly... I'll have to buy a PS3 for FFXIII and vXIII anyway... -______-

good man, supporting FF on the only system it should stay on, PS3.
Lucky for me, my comp is right next to my TV that has the PS3 connected to it; so i can play XIV and, when it comes out, ToR at the same time lol
