The first trailer for the remake of Wes Craven's 1984 horror classic, A Nightmare on Elm Street.

I'm not very fond of remakes (Friday the 13th remake was horrible) but this looks promising.

Arn't there already 7 Nightmare on Elm Street movies? Do we really need remakes now?

Well I suppose it could be good. I'll watch the trailer later when i'm not stuck in class.

On that note, i'm still not that optimistic of this movie. Not because it's a remake but beacuase almost all the horror movies that have come out in the past several years (or more) have sucked.

True, most horror movies seem like they follow a formula and just rehash the same shit from other movies.
In my opinion, the last good horror movie to come out in recent years was the original saw movie.

God Damn it........why do they let Michael Bay make movies? He turned Transformers into a nice steaming pile of shit and now they've given him this to destroy.........

at least it was a good call to cast Jackie Earle Haley as Freddy and not let Bay cast that little fuck-twat Shia LaDouche.

Let's be fair here. A Nightmare on Elm Street has an astounding fanbase and reputation as the pinnacle of the slasher age, but let's not start talking about a remake "ruining" it. A Nightmare on Elm Street was ruined by its sequel and its corpse repeatedly defiled by its other sequels, perhaps with the exception of Wes Craven's New Nightmare. It's like how people were worried about how Rocky Balboa would ruin the legendary Rocky series. Well, you know, worry that it's going to be crap if you like, but if you'd seen Rocky 3, 4 & 5, you'd be well aware that the series was already ruined and one more stinker wasn't gonna hurt it. The same applies here, there's nothing left to defile if the movie stinks, but a good remake might lead to another series that could be better, or it might just let it go out in style. There's nothing to lose here.

Personally, I'm quite excited 'cause it looks like production values are pretty high, but is anyone else a little worried by the dialogue in that trailer? I could have written better lines than those, and I could have delivered them better than the actors. Makes me a little worried.

Here's the question we should be asking: When has Michael Bay made a horror movie?

Last thing and only thing I associate Michael Bay with are big, over-done explosions and special effects. Movies that are only meant for a quick box office climb to number one with no meaningful story, two dimensional characters and un-witty one-liners.

Between the crappy remakes and the anime/cartoon-adaptations-that-are-not-meant-to-be-remade, Hollywood really lost what made Hollywood what it was. Now it's all about that one blockbuster weekend to make tens of millions of dollars rather than put out a good story.

Last good movie remakes that I've seen in 2008 and 2009: Start Trek (2009) and Batman The Dark Knight.

The new Fame movie that came out cannot even compare to the 1980 original.

I lol'd when I saw michael bay was on this project. He was producer on the Friday the 13th remake you were talking about.

Oh and Rorschach = Freddy. Should be interesting.

Apparently, Bay is going to necro-rape Hicthcock by remaking The Birds.

But, as with all these other horror remakes, he'd only be a producer. As his previous producer credits have shown, he doesn't have to literally be behind the camera to skull-fuck cinema to death

I think this looks alright, but it needs to be great to make up for the amount of awful classic sequels that tarnished the very first film...

Samual Bayer

Who is this person you ask? The thunderdouche that's directing this film. What has he done previously? He "directed" collections of music videos for DVD.

However! It's been written by Wesley Strick, who wrote Cape Fear... And not a whole lot else....

As for the cast... Where the fuck is Nancy's father? He's absent from the character list.

EDIT:

While not better than the first, Nightmare 2 and 3 were a lot better than what came after (excluding New Nightmare, which technically wasn't a sequel). People don't really know how to judge Nightmare 2 because it is never played on TV. In fact, I dare say the only way someone would be able to watch it is to buy the The Nightmare Collection (of course, with this remake, it might make it's way into marathons on Chiller or Syfy). Nightmare 2's only real fault was with casting. Nightmare 3 is good because it allowed Kruger to be shown in full-blown sadistic glee, without trying to formulate a punchline.

Nightmare's 4, 5 and 6 on the other hand... Yeah they stank of rotten crotch. And technically, since it's canon, Freddy vs. Jason. Yeah, it sucked, but it did something that the sequels and even the original failed to do: present the evil that was Kruger, before he became a monster.

Yeah I suppose that the first few sequels weren't bad at all, especially 2. The last time I watched all of them was in a horror movie marathon with friends, and after watching EVERY nightmare movie consecutively, you really start hating the sequels and appreciating the first.

I feel it's the same thing as Saw: it's a masterpiece when left by itself. Nightmare 1's gore was so good for the special effects of that time period, it really was a good movie. I'm hoping I'm not disappointed by this film, since there have been sooooooooooooo many bad horror films as of late. The genre needs a boost.

What I don't understand is why they didn't at least cast Robert as Freddy Krueger. He is what made me want to watch the Nightmare series. Maybe he didn't feel up to it or something.

I understand that it's a remake, but they need to try to stay as close to the original plot as they can, and even the trailer seems to be straying too far from that feel. Friday the 13th had nothing in common with the original movie, save for the first 2 minutes of the movie. It is a remake, if I remade a sword, it should not end up looking like a boomerang.
