Advice for a Red mage in PvP

I have a very limited knowledge when it comes to PVP in ffxi, so I am asking for advice from experienced players.

I've only done ballista/brenner maybe a total of 5xs in my ffxi career, always going as blm. Now blm is pretty fun and everything but I find it to be pretty damn cheap at times. I have 9 75 jobs (Blm, Thf, Nin, Sam, Rng, Drk, Rdm, Brd, Cor) but I feel that rdm will suit me the best in PvP, primarily because I am a taru. To be more specific, I am particularly fond of rdm/nin and have fairly good experience in soloing NM's (Straight tanking NM's is my favorite thing to do).

I have top of the line gear and wish to push red mage to its maximum potential. What I am looking for is a main gear set up for PvP (do to the penalty of gear swaps), Support Jobs suggestions, and a general playing strategy/tips for a Red Mage in PvP situations.

Beware the BLU :blu:

Ok mildly more serious response:

ditch /NIN. It works... but only to a degree. raw defense (in the form of -phy dmg and phalanx) will trump what 6 shadows can do every time against a melee job. I'm sure a soloist has an Oshi~ macro yes? Think that. Part of RDM pvp is going to be adapting to what your enemy is capable of. Not too terribly different from any other job.
Just don't be a tard and melee jobs that are physically defensive (whether it be a brick wall like a PLD or too hard to hit like a THF) and i'm sure you can figure it out.
