I'd prefer broadening the horizons of the current classes to adding new ones. Aside from pet jobs, everything they've revealed is pretty encompassing. I think Hybrids will be achievable via the Armory system (Gladiators with White Magic, etc), the only unrepresented feature is pets.

I like this idea as then one would be able to create a true Paladin-style Gladiator. Ofcourse Id hope there are limitations as well because we all know how broken some combinations would become haha.

The limiting factor would be stat heavy abilities and combat equations. Think about it:

If You want to be a Paladin, firstly you have to train up Gladiator (With a focus on shield abilities) and Thaumaturge (healing). From there, all of your EXP has to go into (assuming everything works roughly the way it did in FFXI, but more raw stat focused): HP > VIT > MND > > MP > STR > AGI--- You can't pour your points into the damage dealing stats because it would hinder your defenses, MP, HP, and evasive abilities. This works both ways as focusing on attack power and black magic would limit the points you can put into defensive measures. There's going to be a Physical Level cap, and after that cap, you'll only be able to play with the distribution of your points to be as effective as possible. The difference between this and FFXI being that you're free to do whatever you want with your stats - be they from equipment or level points, rather than having carved out limits on the things you do.

If you've ever played Ragnarok Online, you can appreciate how this is the single best system as you have ungodly amounts of control over how your character feels. I really hope AGI extends to attack speed and Dex extends to casting speeds -- This game is already impressive, but that would put it overboard as the best MMO I've ever seen.

I'm definitely going Archer.
I mean I even have my perfect character created already in my mind. She would be Elvaan Female Archer, largest/longest, dark long hair, white eyes, big boobs and hips. Strong low-pitch voice.. =]

Hmm... on the FFXIV disciplines of war page, it lists Pugilist as having the Steal skill, while also giving Lancer a Trick Attack-style of ability, transferring enmity of an attack to another... Also seems like they might be doing a bit of wrong to Pugilist like they did to MNK at the start of FFXI, detailing it as a partially defensive class, complete with a provoke-style ability and offensive/defensive stances... Just keeps getting more interesting, as I've not even looked at the site in a while.

As for the class of choice, I'd probably say Lancer, but Archer does seem intriguing, since I played a hunter in WoW... personally I just love how everything looks right now, and I think I'll end up giving everything (maaaaaybe short of tanking... still a bit tank-shy) a reasonable shot. So excited for this... got my CE preordered, and been out of FFXI for over a year, WoW for at least half a year now...

I'm probably going to focus on a magic class (haven't decided which yet) first, but if I do decide to work on a non-magic class it'd probably be an Archer; I enjoy keeping my distance and staying alive :)

Ah yes. I have decided to become a Wildwood Elezen Gladiator!! It will really seal the deal if they get dual wield, or we can obtain it some way or another!

gonna end up making a drk like character, so If I'm going to do that with the starting classes it looks like I need to start off as.....Marauder/or DD Gladiator, Pugilist (for blood weapon like skill), and Thaumaturge (for the drk spells, Absorb ACC and the like)

Most likely Lancer. But if they add a Samurai job, definitely that instead!

Pugilist for me until pet classes are out. Gladiator was a huge borefest 10+

Maybe I will switch to Conjurer knowing it will be a summoner type class near expansion time.
