Okay I have been trying to make some videos with FFXI recently and been running into lag problems. I use full version of fraps and everytime I run it I lag really bad. This show through the video because the sounds are skipping or something and you can tell im lagging... how do people get all those videos without lagging while in game and doing it (like for bcnms... its horrible to lag during)

Posting your PC specs and the resolution you are trying to record from would be helpful. I'm going to bet that your resolution is high enough that running Fraps is making your PC gag.

Well yeah my resolution is at its best. What is recommended so that I can play normally without the huge lag from fraps?

Play with the settings. Do some tests; Set it at the lowest setting, record with fraps, and see what you get. If it looks good, bump it up a notch. Keep doing that till your at a place you like. If you find setting it at the lowest setting still gets you bad lag, get a new computer... or at least upgrade it. ^_^;

Also make sure that other programs that could cause problems are off. Any background programs and such. This will sometimes cause unnecessary lag.

Can't afford a new computer :( but it prolly a main cause. I guess everyone who takes videos of this game has a really good computer then lol, I've had this one for years (5 yrs+) but it still pretty decent.

No need for a better PC. Here's a quick fix/adjustment you can do for when you want to make vids using fraps. Only draw back is you need to know you're going to do this before hand. Mind you I know a few ppl who play the game like this on a regualr basis.

1. I'm assuming you're using windower. Set the game screen to something smaller than the full resolution. Example, I run at 1680 x1050. I'd lower the game display in the widower config file to 1024x768 (or similar res for widescreen).

2 And here is the key to keep the quality high, set your registry. Here is the link [ Here ] scroll down to Registry Overview and follow all the way down till you hit Mip Mapping.

Try Fraps after that and it should be less strain on your PC. Since videos for the most part will be scaled down in size when you post on say youtube. A small game screen is still ok. The thing I found that helped is to make the game res about 2/3 of the current screen resolutions size.

Hope this helps.
