Ranger Job Adjustments
Job Ability Adjustments
- Velocity Shot
The duration of this ability will be increased from five minutes to two hours.

- Unlimited Shot
Once activated, this ability will remain in effect until you successfully hit your mark.

- Camouflage
Rangers with this ability in effect will incur less enmity for ranged attacks. There will be a chance that the ability remains in effect even after a ranged attack, depending on your position relative to your target.

Ranged Attack Adjustments
-Ranged attack enmity
Less enmity will be incurred the further away you are from the target of your ranged attacks.

- Detailed damage messages for ranged attacks
Damage messages displayed after a successful ranged attack will indicate the effectiveness of the attack, allowing for players to better gauge their positioning. Critical hit and missed attack messages will remain unchanged

This concludes our preview of the adjustments scheduled for rangers in the upcoming version update.
Other jobs set to receive fine-tuning will be featured in the coming days, so keep your eyes glued to this space!

It will still have a 5 minute re-cast yes.

I'm wondering what you mean by "Rangers finally get something," Rikki. Ranger is actually well ahead of where it was back before the infamous nerf.

The change to Unlimited Shot confuses me a bit. Maybe it'll convince me to get another Patriarch Protector's Arrow, though.

Yeah... this. We were doing pretty well imo, though the silly 5 min V Shot should have been longer from the start. Its fix is more of a convenience thing than anything else.

Ugh... ya, Path. I might just have to get PPA #4 now.

EDIT: As I think about it, I'd almost rather V Shot stay 5 min duration, but go down to a 1 min recast more like Seigan/Hasso. Eh, that's probably just me.

I suspect the 5min/2hr rather than 1min/5min has to do with discouraging meleeing for TP and just popping VShot every WS or two for extra damage.

I think this will encourage more people to use bows only. I myself already sold my gun, as most things I did with Rng I had to be far away and was losing any bonus I was getting from using a gun.

Gun's still will reign supreme in ultimate zerg situations however, but I'd rather Drk for those.

And by "finally getting something" I meant with the new job adjustments, not that we were gimp or anything.

IDC what they do, but I'm never giving up Obow on things that acids proc on...period. Nor will I ever pick up a bow again when I can use a gun.

It really seems that SE wants to get rid of the melee RNG...first the major nerf with the distance penalties, then introducing velocity shot to encourage you to shoot instead of melee, and now this. They might as well just take rng off of the jobs that can use kclub if thats what they really want to say >.>

But I will admit, I do like the whole camo idea if its implemented well...I probably wont be using that much but at least its an option for those that do

Are they trying to kill off Ranger melee or are they simply trying to balance between melee Rangers and ranged Rangers? Everything I've read suggests that melee Rangers have no trouble beating the hell out of a ranged Ranger, especially given that Sidewinder is going to pull aggro quite reliably. I like the aesthetic and style of standing out of range and pinging a mob (you know, what the idea of an archer is supposed to be), but I can only rarely pull it off because my damage plummets as soon as I use a weaponskill, even if I use something lackluster like Arching or Empyreal Arrow.

If SE really wanted to kill melee Rangers, they'd do like WoW and add a dead zone of about 6-8 yalms in which ranged attacks simply cannot be made.

Hass, I mean VS v2 - Pretty pointless really. It was fine how it was, looks like the additions to RNG were looking pretty sparse and they threw that in as filler.

Unlimited Shot - Not bad, nothing stellar though. Time to go bitch on the THF forums about losing SA/TA due to turning mobs so SE might change it before FFXIV comes out.

Camoflauge - I have enmity merits, if I cared about how much hate I was generating I'd drop those.

Less enmity at distance - See above. I use RNG in Sea, mostly to annoy BLMs, less hate = bad.

The different messages sound mildly interesting though, shame windower eliminates the need for them I suppose. It'll be a nice way of backing up what we already know I guess.

This is mostly what I want. Once I know what my ideal distance is with my weapons, I hope they add a chat filter so I can turn the messages off. It's bad enough seeing "The Orcish Pedophile is out of range" constantly because I want to fire off weaponskills.

At least nothing gimps the job, may be small improvements but at least it's an improvement.

Sometimes i think they should just make V.Shot a Job Trait instead of a JA. Anyhow at least the two hour duration means i can have one less macro to worry about.

Yea I always hated hunter for that reason in PvP.

But then again, how would a hunter fire his bow at someone 1ft away, he'd have to like stab them in the eye with the arrow lol.

Might be more beneficial than Rapid Shot Merits. Then again I haven't played FFXI for over a year - and I completely forgot what the recast would be after merits. Not a substantial amount I am assuming.

5/5 Unlimited Shot is 100% needed if you use Conquest Arrows for WS. =P

5/5 Unlimited shot will to to waste often enough for it to be worthless. Camoflage is will be usable whenever it's up and be effective as it seems. That and I shot off all my CP arrows a long time ago.

Only shot off one of my CP arrows in the 5 years I played RNG(not my entire time on FFXI). I made 4 macros so I wouldn't shoot the bloody thing off. >_>; Gearswaps and all. xD
