Stupid n00b question but...
What programs does everyone use to record these movies of there game play?
A list of good programs would be really helpful. ThankYou!

Fraps 2.10, I have a full version you can use. http://webpages.charter.net/fentonjt/fraps210.rar
No limitation with this version, and it has sound recording.

if you want to record long videos (like HNM fights and whatnot), a digital video camera would work well. a linkshell called Order of Blue Gartr had someone record all their god and HNM monster fights to create a video (these videos being 2 hrs long, but was compressed within 8 minutes or so). you can find them @ http://www.theorderls.com/videos.php.
but for short movies, fraps will work well.
then download virtualdub by googling it and filter > compression and select a compression like divx.

How come when I record with Fraps my game starts to run all slow and choppy? I figure it's because of all the processing going on with the program and the video being saved. But when I go to view my saved video it also is slow and choppy. Is there a way to fix this?

try this:
change the size the video records at to "Half-size" instead of "Full Size". If you're using 1024x780 res in-game, it should turn out fine.
secondly, you are writing massive amounts of data to your hard drive. If it's the same hard drive that's READING FFXI, then you'll experience lag, because you're writing to the harddrive while you're reading from it. setting the video to write to a individual harddrive might reduce the massive lag you experience from recording the video.
3rd, if you are using a 5400RPM harddrive, don't bother trying to record anything, u'll waste your time. a 7200RPM harddrive can take the abuse of recording a video from FRAPS a little better than a 5400RPM drive, though you will still get lag. However, if you have a 10,000RPM drive (western digital raptor or equivilant), video recording from fraps should be pretty smooth.
lastly: if you have a crappy processor (celeron or a slow pentium 4), you may not get the best FPS in-game, because the processor has to share resources between recording the video and running the game. having 512mb or greater of memory also helps. A good graphics card doesn't hurt either (9600pro or higher, dunno the equivilant for nvidia).
So in short, a machine w/ a p4 3gzh, 10,000RPM harddrive, 1gb memory will record a video smoother than a p4 1gzh, 7200rpm/5400RPM harddrive, w/ 256mb of memory.
more or less, you will always experience lag when you start recording, even with the best machines. sometimes you'll have to deal w/ it. I dunno how much u're lagging when you record a video, but i was including the worse-case scenario in my post as you can tell =P. an average machine like a p4 2gzh/AMD 2500+, 512mb DDR400, <40gb 7200RPM hard drive, and a good graphics card should turn out around 10-18 FPS while recording depending on settings.

Im having a bit of problem with FRAPS. When i have it on, my moves are very delayed. IF i hold my up arrow for 10 seconds and let go my char would urn around for 20 seconds by itself. My comp is 1.6 GHZ and video card at 256. This is all without the record mode on. Record mode on is worse
