I've been playing FFXI on and off for about five years, and it's been one of my major sources of inspiration over the years. I often used the models in the game for gesture studies, as well as references for interesting details in costuming and armor design. What really draws me to the visual style of FFXI is it's "fantastic naturalism", if I can call it that. The designs within the game maintain an air of functionality and form while still being magical; the armor and weapon designs look like they could actually work in real life, even though they're very ornamental.
That being said, this topic will be a small collection of some of the sketches, studies, and illustrations that I've done over the years inspired and cultivated from FFXI. I hope you enjoy what you see as much as I've enjoyed creating making these works ^.^
To start off, this was one of my first armor studies I did from the game. I'd recently switched to a low-level thief and had been building him up over several levels, and finished working with him at level 37. Somewhere in there, probably around level 30 or so, I did this armor study while camping some NM. I've always liked it when artists included the "unseen" bits of armor into their characters, such as the earrings and cloaks. So, here's my thief, complete with an empress hairpin, noct gloves, noct doublet, noct brais, bounding boots, and two wing earrings. I forgot the cape and the necklace I was wearing at the time, and forgot to illustrate them when drawing this.

More to come in the future, including signature images, button designs, and cute stuff!
