Ok so at this point we all know that the job system us completely different in XIV then it was in XI. We already know that alot of the jobs are now named something completely different(in my opinion they sound more generic and westernized) And I really don't like this.

At one point Square said the reason all the races were the same in XIV was because they wanted players who were familier with XI to be able to jump right in and be at home. However in my mind jobs being the same and what not is FAR FAR more critical to making a FFXI player feel at home in the new game then the races being the same. Yet they are changing it all. We have so far gotten what seems to be confirmation that certain jobs may not even appear in the game in any real way. Like samurai for example.

Also changing the jobs leads to another confusing issue. Spell and ability names. Will those things be the same as in XI? or will players have to learn everything all over again? If they are the same why bother change the names of the jobs that go with them? Isn't that just unneeded confusion?

I mean i don't know about you but I personally if I do play the game I won't be calling Pugilist that. I will be calling it Monk because lets face it. Its the same exact thing and it has a completely unnecessary name change.

So thoughts? Am I the only one annoyed by all this? I mean the rest of the game has me incredibly interested but this pointless changes are really annoying me.

keep in mind that they seem to be going with a flexible open ended type of character development, while the full depth and scope of the armory system has yet to be explained as far as skill overlap.

to use cids example one pugilist might not be the same as the next one. while there will be some skills native to each class but who knows how you might be able to mix and match skills you have learned or earned. or frankly how flexible a classes skills might be on there own. it has been stated that you can set your skills to be a defensive or offensive Gladiator they are keeping the class names generic for a reason. as trite as this might sound as far as the classes go think more along the lines of VII then Xi.. just with out the running around collecting glowing stones and shoving them into your weapon.

Things would have been much more simple if they didn't give actual names to their job classes. It would be much more amusing to have the names thought up by the magazine writers.

Rather than be a mnk or a pugilist, just be a player that skilled up his claws and knuckle weapons. Pick up wrestling or martial arts with accessories or relics and stats balanced by armor class.

Someone doesn't like chaaaaaaaaange =O.

In all seriousness, even though there are similarities it is a new game. Pugilist won't necessarily play like Monk does, Lancer won't probably play out like Dragoon does etc... It is an entirely new game, any similarities between XIV and XI are just put there for ease of transition between the two... or Square-Enix's laziness.

I can understand what you mean by not putting a title on things to avoid confusion, but I think it would create just as much, or more.

Think of the new classes as "spiritual-successors".

I had a really long, well thought out post about FFXIV's class system.. then i remembered, no one would really care to read it anyway, they would continue on with their own half ass speculation.

In short: Just shut up and wait for FFXIV.

There's a world of difference there.

Since Pugilist translates to Boxer... does that mean Mike Tyson or Mr. Dream will be a Pugilist's G5?

Yeah...I like the MNK name better than Pugilist to be honest. But umm...yeah...there truly is a world of difference but think about the speculations made on other games before they came out and the way the games are now. Check Dissidia speculation characters and gameplay compared to how it came out. Check all speculations from games to the way they came out...completely different! (65% of the time [Estimation]).

...what?

So, Marauder is more western than Warrior? I don't think either of those words hold any kind of cultural orientation. I don't think changing mage names to things like druid or thaumaturge is anything to gripe about. I guess it sounds less "generically final fantasy," but who wants things to be that stagnant anyway?

Yea I kinda feel the same way honestly but I feel after I start playing that most will get used to the name changes after awhile. It's like phunk said, the classes may be similar just to keep that familiarity of the job from the past but ultimately im pretty sure that SE wants to change a lot of things with FFXIV in comparison to FFXI. Plus theres still loads of time for them to release more info about each class so I would just continue to sit back and see what happens^^

You do realize that the Final Fantasy series is actually a loosely related series of role playing games with in some cases very different gameplay system, game worlds, and storylines, right? I don't really think the fact this game will have a different game system should be shocking considering it is Final Fantasy XIV. If they called this Final Fantasy XI-2, then maybe you would have a point, but it isn't.

They aren't going to shut down FFXI because FFXIV comes out. If you like FFXI better, then play that. Last I heard, Everquest 1 and Everquest 2 had pretty close to the same number of players. The same with Lineage 1 and Lineage 2. Older MMO's do not automatically lose all their players because a sequel is released.

I think you're still under the impression that this is a direct sequel or something. Having to learn everything all over again, playing in a different environment, playing new jobs etc. Have you ever played a FF before? If so, were you pissed when, after booting up FF7, there weren't espers and you had to figure out the materia system? Or after that you had to deal with GFs instead of materia? Did that anger you? And then after that you kinda lost the ability to truly customize each character you had and you basically HAD to have Vivi as a BLM and Zidane as a THF. Must've thrown you into a fit of rage. It's not often FF deals in direct sequels, and this is not one of those times, so really this is something you need to just get over.

So you want the Jobs/Classes to be named the exact same as FFXI? I mean, it's not enough that the same damn races (differently named) are in the game, you have to have the EXACT same damn Jobs?! Why not just stick with FFXI then? FFXIV is a totally different game with an entirely new leveling and class system. I'm glad the Classes are named differently. I played 3 years of FFXI, and quite honestly am bored with those Jobs. New game, fresh new ideas either adapt or stick to what you know.

Well TC and people who agree with him, I think you should wait til the actual game comes out before saying you are annoyed with it.
