gfd, it's not materia and the last thing we need is the sound of 1000 fapping ff7 fans. This is a STANDARD item + socket equip, this methodology goes back to D&D and is a staple in a shit load of RPGs. Stop calling it materia.

Materia was a socketing system back when 7 came out, it just had a FF twist to it. This is no different. Referencing it back to materia was merely a joke on Bold's behalf, so don't get your nuts in a twist. ;)

At any rate, this is just like WoW and Aion's socketing system, except you have an NPC with an oven do it for you.. In WoW/Aion, you can do it on your own with most gear. Certain quested/rare gear is excluded of course, but it's a nice way to customize your gear without the chance of getting "negative augments", which that phrase itself is an oxymoron... SE needs a new dictionary, or better development team.

Edit: Btw, does anyone have images of all the new weapons included with this? I saw the dagger and great sword so far, curious what the others looked like.

Check the link on my post last on the last page, it has all the weapons and armor mined from that last non-gamechanging update.

Those look pretty hot... That polearm looks amazing. Shame they didn't add a bow and scythe of the same sort.

I have no problem with that. I have just seen like 8 different people go ZOMGMATERIA when this system actually sounds very different from the Materia system and more like a plain jane socket & augment system.

Nobody tells deejay request what to play. Let them tell you what to play, they loose respect for you. They loose respect for you, you loose control. Not today...

It's unfortunate, but it's to be expected - FF VII's use of the age-old socket system is just plain the most recognisable. Like how Survival Horror is explained as "like Resident Evil" or how JRPGs are explained as "Like Final Fantasy" or, even less fortunately, how MMOs are described as "Like WoW".

Which rulebook? I don't remember socketed items in any of the books I read through.

Hmm... Axe WS: Attack+5...

Don't people drop attack+ gear for str+ when they ws? Thought it was said that atk+ doesn't increase ws damage.

Sadly you're right. I'm glad they didn't make this like the materia system. If they did all we need is a whiny bitch searching for his gay lover and then we got FF7 in FF11

Should your synergy be successful, congratulations!

Say hello to 1% success rates.

Unless this is amazing I doubt I'll bother. At this rate the next update after this will probably have something to trump this. Which would be alright, if we weren't still using gear from 4 years ago.

It would be cool if you can add these on top of your augments. It would also be nice if you could remove your augments >.> Most augments suck but I've seen some nice ones like Magic Accuracy +2 on an earring. Also like Nattack this reminded me a lot of Diablo II.

I wonder if these are going to make Fae Weapons obsolete, since it's nearly impossible to get good stats on those just because it is so random.

"Should your synergy be successful, congratulations!
If not, well...sucks to be you holmes."

I don't think that Evo will be random, seeing as how that will completely invalidate the Aug system. What I *do* forsee is having to kill some level 100 NM 20 times before you get that coveted "Triple Attack + 10" rock which you'll then have to /random for against 7 other melee.

They're going to botch this up somehow, is what i'm sayin'.

there was a scythe hidden in the dats how ever its color scheme was totally different, i am guessing the rest of the dats will be put in place with the update these come in on.

/\ the scythe /\ kinda looks similar to mythic if you ask me.

the gear looks hit or miss, head pieces kinda look cool, always liked the face guard with eye opening. \/

this imo looks stupid \/

All in all we'll have to wait and see what stats are and how they are available (craft-able, and how hard to craft them/obtain materials), there has yet to be any introduction of the other oddly colored gear found in .dats so who knows.

Yeah, i saw that before, too. But kinda wished there was one in the same style as the polearm and such.

And that armor looks redonkulus.

That was one of my favorite sets on Spira's blog actually.

I like all of the new head pieces a lot. The neon weapons look at bit weird to me though. I liked the realistic look of FFXI armor and weapons.
