So I have an AMD quad core 64 processor. I was running XP 64 untill yesterday, but I decided to upgrade to an operating system thatis still supported. (silly me.) I went to reinstall FFXI, downloaded the special POL viewer for Vista and 7, got through that, and started installing the base game. as soon as it starts installing the DAT files, it crashes with "error 1335. the cabinte file: "data1.cab" required for this installation is corrupt and cannot be used. this could indicate a network error (um, no), an error reading from the CD (not likely. The DVD is fine and it's failed multiple times), or a problem with this package. (didn't seem to be an issue on my wife's computer...)
I contacted SE to see if they could help, and I got this:
While FINAL FANTASY XI has recently been upgraded to support Windows 7, unfortunately the software does not support 64bit operating systems. We do apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.
I replied saying that I was using XP 64 previously. I got this:
It is entirely possible for any software to operate on an unsupported operating system. However patches, updates, new versions, etc will not be designed to function on that unsupported operating system, and may end up with the software no longer operating as it once did.
Unfortunately, as 64bit operating systems are not supported, we cannot provide support for them.
Finally, I asked if I there was some kind of workaround or if there was going to be support in the near future. This is what I got as a response:
Regarding your request for technical support. Please find your answer below.
You may want to search community sites for a solution to your problem. We do apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.
Thank you for contacting the SQUARE ENIX Support Center.
So I'm asking you, and posting this on every FFXI community I can find, for help. if you know some kind of workaround, some kind of fix, please help me.

When you said "upgrade" did you mean you upgraded from xp, or did full format to put on fresh copy?
If you actually upgraded, then try doing full reformat. Sometimes registry files among other things that should not be present are sent over to the new operating system and can cause install errors, driver issues, read issues..........ect. Microsoft created the "upgrade" feature with the computer inept in mind, specifically those that only use the interwebs for email and such. For the rest of us that use many applications un-supported by microsoft, backup your data, and do fresh install.
If you otherwise did do full format, may want to check hardware, perhaps theres an issue with cd-rom or HDD causing this problem.
