Still top dog? Or would I be better off playing NIN / SAM instead of finishing MNK? I know Monk used to rock it, and probably still does, at some point or another someone told me it's not as good anymore due to higher drop rates?
Everyone I have spoken to recently have told me their setups don't include Monk, soooooo is it worth finishing for Salvage or not?

Thanks ahead of time for the info :).

If you are only levelling Monk for Salvage, I'm sure you could get away with Samurai. Why put the time into levelling a job if you're not going to use it outside of a single event?

Not sure who you talk to but i have been ruining salvage for a long time with many different setups, groups, ex and never seen salvage done without at least 1 monk.
As for leveling monk for only salvage, i would say no. Monk requires time and effort to build up armor merits skill to tank bosses and so on. If you want a job for
ONLY salvage just use what u have.

If it's not something you're going to merits and put some gear/time into (yes lol @ mnks w/o h2h merits as they do the most increase out of any combat merits), then just use what you have or recruit a mnk who is serious about the job.

like the others have said, if it is just for salvage you would be better off going with what you have the most time vested into. and if need be recruit a monk main jobber

Already lvling MNK for Cap, it's 62, near 63 atm. I don't half ass anything so I'm absolutely fine with gearing it out, I enjoy Monk as my last account had 75 MNK also. Had to clear that up, my question is more so pertaining to, is Monk still the best thing for Salvage since sliced bread? Most of the people I know who do Salvage claim they don't use Monk anymore except for one friend who thinks Monk is the absolute best job in the game for everything, and I mean everything. Aside from that though, people have been telling me they use SAM / WAR / DRK for DD's pretty much exclusively, this was my concern really, as I don't want to gear the job (More importantly merit it further, already @ 2/8 H2H) out if it's not as good for it's primary event still.

If your not gonna put 100% effort into your Mnk, just use Sam, it will do just as well.

To answer your question,

Yes monks are still an essential part of any good salvage group.

They are heavy tanks, with high output of DPS even at the start without weapons. Monks allow other DD to get weapons early, they can tank chariots flawlessly, they can heal themselves, and they have the highest subtle blow of the good salvage jobs (sorry nin).

I always take one monk, but prefer two for most runs. A monk with Usukane and a black belt is a deadly tool in salvage.
