I think this movie was OK, there were few times when I almost shit my pants. But overall the quality of horror movies in general is very low. Every year there is at least 10 another shitty horror movies released...
I have been always a fan of French, Spanish or German horror movies, especially the ones with a bit lower budget, this really forces the director and crew to really show their skills and filming techniques. Good examples are "Irréversible" and "Rec" (later on American spoiled the whole thing by re-making their big-budget version called: "QUARANTINE") .. But anyways I think most of the horror movies today are pure crap, and I have no big expectations towards almost any horro movie anymore..
The movie Paranormal Activity

I've not seen a real "horror" movie in years. They're all thrillers and gorefests.

I thought The Descent was a pretty good fairly recent horror movie. It's a total gorefest, even more so than most movies that sell on being full of gore, but it was still a pretty decent movie. What I mostly liked about it was it was the first horror I've seen in ages that gets suspense right. When most movies try for that, they end up being boring and frustrating while you wait for them to get to the point, but this one really hits the nail on the head with the tense scenes. Give it a try.

I was really disappointed in Paranormal Activity. Not only was it fake (I was hoping for an actual documentary of the supernatural one of these days, preferably NOT with the faggots from TAPS), but it wasn't scary, it just had shit pop up and then you'd go "GASP!" I get the exact same reaction when my cat sneezes, but I don't make a movie out of that.
One thing I did like about it was the story of the demon. They gave it a reason to be haunting the girl, not just "hi, demon here, ima haunt you nao k??".
For scary movies, I'm still waiting for The Crazies and Shutter Island. Legion looks fucking retarded.

It was better than Cloverfield/Blair witch and definitely better than the shitty ass torture porn that seems to be so in nowadays.
