So I was watching football the other night and this popped on the commercials:
Let me state this: I have never. Fucking. Ever. Liked a video game to movie transition. They have always been mediocre to absolutely horrible. That being said, this is actually something that looks decent.
Same team as the Pirates of the Caribbean, it's got Donnie Darko, director did a harry potter, etc etc etc.
Will it blow?
Will PoP: SoT Suck?

I was actually kind of impressed at some of the visuals and kinda liked the adventure feel it has to it. Almost like an Indiana Jones/Mummy kinda thing. I actually haven't played any of the PS2 PoP games, only recently having tried the 360 one, so I can't say much for the story or how different the game and movie is. So that could be why I am looking forward to seeing how this turns out. I know how easy it is to just blow a movie off because it's based on a video game, too, but that's never stopped me from giving up my $10 for a couple hours of guilty pleasure

On it's own it looks pretty good. I've never played PoP before, so I can't say how well the adaptation will be, but I'd check it out anyways.

I played SoT on the PS2 when it first came out. Trailer looks pretty good, might keep an eye on this see if any more news comes out about it later.

it'll most likely blow to those who played the game

The story and acting will introduce a new paradigm of psychological pain amongst those unfortunate enough to think it's anything more than eye candy.
Thankfully, I fucking love mindless action and special effects.

I won't doubt the movie yet, but the guy they picked does not look like the Prince. But it has a fighting chance as long as it is not directed by Uwe Boll.

After watching the trailer it feels as if I've seen the entire movie.

It certainly won't be anything like the games, that much is for sure. I can't imagine watching him attempt to navigate the same stretch of scenery 4 times and dying 3 times would be much fun. Sadly it seems like they've ignored the second and third games, though presumably they'll milk this for all it's worth, WW would have made a much better film since it's actually about kicking the shit out of all and sundry. The plot for this will be rather bland, find dagger, screw up, climb tower, the end. For some reason when watching the trailer, I'm reminded of Hercules/Xena, I can't work out why yet.
Done right, this could be fucking awesome, based on that trailer alone, I'm not blown away.

Despite being Persia (modern day Iran), everyone seems to have an English Accent. Much like old Herc/Xena thing.
Thing is Gyllenhaal isn't really English. So someone had to say "HEY, YOU KNOW WHAT WOULD BE GREAT?! IF YOU THREW IN AN ENGLISH ACCENT TO YOUR CHARACTER!"

I think with the level of production and quality of effects put into the movie, it won't be a total shitstorm. I can't recall any video game movies that "looked" as nice as this one.

Never played any PoP games past the DoS ones, but if they keep it close to the game it could be decent I suppose, though Hollywood usually has a way of screwing up something.

See: Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen.
Seriously, production values mean crap if the story was written by a retarded lemur with Parkinson's and Lou Gehrig's disease. And then directed by a hemorrhaging glob of excrement.

All they need is a hot chick and nice special effects to make a great movie. Why bother with a plot?

I don't know. Maybe because people should take some pride in their work and create something other than, "TITS!! EXPLOSIONS!! ARRRRRRRGGGGG!!! RAGING ROBOT HARD-ON!!!"

Quite honestly, the only reason Bay still has a job in Hollywood is because he is the only director that can consistently produce films under budget and get them in the can early. Transformers: RotF had an initial budget of ~$150 million. He ended up making it for ~$125 million and finished shooting a week ahead of schedule.
In other words, he's a producer's director.
