WAR Solo ability?

Hey guys,

So, other than the fact that my WAR is 37, I pretty much no absolutely nothing about WAR. But now, I'm thinking of picking it up again and leveling it.

But I have a question. How is WARs solo ability? At 75, I love to do things solo alot, so I was wondering how WAR would fare?

Thanks in advance.

Solo as in NMs and shit other jobs can do? Not a chance. Solo for EXP? WAR/DNC is pretty nice, though don't expect something like soloing ITs anytime soon.

Pretty much. While /DNC has given WAR a much better survival chance nowdays, as a solo job it's still pretty horrible. Basically WARs couldn't evade a parked car.

As WAR/DNC, I found that I can solo EMs and low Ts, but not much higher than that. The new Waltz augments would help a lot, but don't expect to solo anything on WAR/DNC that you can't solo on BST/DNC faster. (Jug Pet > damage difference between BST and WAR, let alone a real pet)

Yes, but only under the effect of FoV buffs.

If you want melee job that can solo fairly well, lvl THF or NIN. Mnk is my fav though. Anyone of these /dnc is great for soloing, GL^^

war is my only 75 job at the moment, and I've leveled many different subjobs for it. I have also had experience soloing with it. You can solo EP's and DC's at 75 with /dnc and the right gear.

For warrior solo, cutting out eva- is the key. So hauberk and haubergeon are out of the question if you want to solo.

Three key pieces of gear are askar korazin, o-hat, and boxers mantle. +22 eva from ohat and askar. And boxers mantle for the eva skill and parry skill. I also have 3 eva merits and 2 parry merits.

I usually use byakko axe, claymore grip, bomb core, ohat, pcc, brutal earring, sometimes assault or fowling earling. askar korazin, dusk gloves/jaridah bazubands. Raja/ulthalam's ring. Boxers mantle, swift helt, byakko kaidate and bounding boots (nothing better without eva- right now.. :( )

With this setup you can modify most of the pieces you want, as war/dnc you can skill up many different weapons without stopping in the kuftal tunnel. I havent tried solo skilling in boyhada tree yet, but I think I will after I get my npc fellow a couple levels higher for some extra healing.

You can also solo good in campaign but what job can, heh.

You can also solo most NMs that are lvl 60 or below.

Also, for soloing you'll want to keep retaliation and defender up 100% of the time, or if you want to deal damage a little faster, keep retaliation up but not defender, dont use berserk or aggressor.

I soloed most of my skills up to cap on Byrth before I got banned. This was before various things like Patronus ring, etc.

For skillup I used:
Main: Weapon of choice (IR Lance is nice for Polearm)
Sub: Acheron's Shield if 1H, Pole Strap if 2H
Ammo: Bibiki Seashell vs. Crabs, otherwise Fire Bomblet
Head: Askar Zuchetto
Neck: PCC or sea torque if I happen to have it.
Ear1: Brutal Earring
Ear2: Triumph (only had it and Assault)
Body: Kirin's Osode or Hauberk +1 depending
Hands: Dusk Gloves
Ring1: Jelly Ring
Ring2: Rajas Ring
Back: Cerb Mantle +1
Waist: Swift belt
Legs: Byakko's Haidate
Feet: Askar or Aurums depending

So, obviously with /DNC the faster you get TP the more you can cure yourself and the better you can stay alive. That said, there's no real reason to gimp your damage because you have to be sitting there spamming Waltzes anyway. I only used Defender in cases where I linked. I could solo DC to T Steelshells, though I liked to go into T Steelshells with some TP if I could. I could also tank three floor 1 mandragoras at a time and solo Unut (using Fort Axe). I did have a level 70 NPC, but I basically just used her for buffing me and never rested unless my buffs wore. I imagine that Waltz Augments would make WAR solo much efficient.
I did have 2 Koenig and Kirin's Osode that I swapped in for my Waltz macro.

My experience with Evasion is a little different than above. There are times when you want crappy evasion so you get hit and retaliate a lot. Like, vs. two Mandragoras I'd use Aggressor and really pump out the Retaliations. As long as you don't run into timer issues it's a good idea and just makes you hit faster.

War can solo but not well enough to justify using it above something thats better suited for the task. Unfortunately in order to solo effectively on War you need to remove alot of the traits that make War a powerful endgame DD. Most of the posts above show you ways of soloing effectively, however at a cost. One of Warrior's strongest aspects is the variety of gear we can wear so as long as you can get your hands on the proper gear setups, you should be ok. If you want an all out soloing job though, you're better off with something else.

I solo pretty well in the tree. T's and VT's aren't that bad, so long as you're smart about it. IMHO, there is no opinion to stacking on EVA, because WAR still couldn't miss a building falling on them. I also solo without NPC either, cause I keep forgetting her...... -_-
WAR75/DNC37 gear;
Joytoy/Acheron Shield Bomb Core
Walahra Turban Chiv Chain Suppa/Assault
Askar body Dusk Gloves Woodsman/Ecphoria
Amemet +1 Potent belt Askar legs Dusk feet

I don't have a problem at all. Keep Retaliation up and you're sweet. I only use Askar body for the DBL ATK and the sTP. Otherwise, id prefer to use my Hauberk. Hopefully getting Swift Belt this weekend, which would make it more awesome. Hell, With WHM haste I attack stupidly quick. IMO the key to solo'ing good with my setup would be the haste, and the sTP. Both very important to be able to use curing waltz faster, to attack faster and drain more, and to keep high TP up. Before /DNC, I hated WAR solo. But god damn its fun now.
