Hi all,

I need your help. I am a big fan of soloing in ffxi. I solo with rdm and cor and I would like to solo with blm soon. The problem is that I do not have Herald's Gaiters. I can get a pair of HG but that would require me giving up my Novio earring which would gimp my Cor. I am currently looking at the stats movement speed +8% and -4% PDT on the mini expansion. I am wondering how the lower movement speed will impact soloing on blm. Is it simply just less room for error? or would it drastically impact the way blm can successfully solo?

For perspective: I was thinking about a Limbus NW Apollyon solo.

Seems that people are not liking the movement speed+ from the mini expansion. I saw someone talk about an 8% increase not doing much for you solo wise. They seem to be used for just mainly getting around faster(obviously) not helping to kite. You could pick much better stats.

Novio is damage. Damage is nice, but very rarely do you absolutely need to meet a damage threshold (basically, only if you're really trying to one-shot something).

Movement speed, on the other hand, is game breaking. Practically speaking, what you want to solo on BLM will affect your decision. If you want to try and replicate, say, Kaeko's Bhaflau Remnants solo, the Chariot is just impossible without +12%. For most other things, +8% might suffice.

In short, there are things out there which you just cannot solo without +12% movement speed, irregardless of your damage output.

With respect to solo'ing Apollyon NW, a Novio means you might have a slightly easier time killing the ghosts and Buffalos on the first two floors, but they have such high HP, you probably won't notice the difference. Gaiters, on the other hand, give you more breathing room to handle the Behemoths on the fifth floor, and provide a safer net in avoiding Kaiser Behemoth's Meteor.
