Best FF to date?

Personally I don't like the idea of going on a date with any copy of any FF game. I would much rather pet my cat all night or sleep or stare at my Mio figures.
But yeah, I did enjoy playing FF9 way more than the others. I completely skipped FF12 because Vaan looked way too... flamboyant for my tastes, so who knows. I may have enjoyed it greatly. the world may never know.

I gotta' go with Final Fantasy 12. If that makes any of you nerdrage, my runner-ups are 6, 5, and 9.
I like Tactics even more than 12, but many do not consider it a part of the main series, so I left it out.

Tactics. But if I had to choose a numbered title it'd be....too hard. Many will be reluctant to say 7 cuz we all know the nerdrage that will follow but I'm gonna say it. It's gotta be either 7/9/6 for me. Only because those are the only ones that I liked so much to play through more than 3 times.

Tactics (PSP remake) > FFVI > FFIX > FFXII, in that order. FFVII might be worthwhile if the translation/story weren't horrifically executed. It needs a makeover like Tactics got.

4 is fav
6 is best
Any older person on here will probably say 6, new kids will day 7+ due to never playing the awesomeness of 6, which is still extremely impressive if you play it today for the first time.

My personal number 1 is FF6 (GBA version, the story is SOO much cleaner and better translated than the PS1 or SNES versions, along with more story), then FF7 then FFT.
FF5 and lower are done a bit differently, with a bit less cinematic storytelling. (of course there is only so much old systems can do, but FF6's story was handed over to someone else for once, and it tried to be more cinematic, and thats what i loved the most.)
FF5 FFT and FF12 had an addiction to customizing ur characters. but FF12 also had the worst story (for its time) i mean FF5 and lower are bad compared to current standards, but for their time, they were great. So it's up to u if ull still wanna play FF12. (The main reason this is so, is because the guy who took over lead for FF12 found it to be too hard, and quit SE half way through the project, causing the game to be delayed, it was almost canceled, but the rest of the team decided to go ahead anf finish the project, and make stuff up, to get the story done.)
if youre playing FFT get the PSP version, its SOOO much better. (Translations fixes and such)
I personally love FF4 on the DS, but ppl love the additional content on the GBA more, thats up to you.
FF10 is a good beginner RPG for some people, even more so those who cant stand to read much, or dont have good reflexes and quick reactions. (Also FF7 is probably the easiest FF of them all, which was great for me, because i wasnt very good at games when i started RPGs. I started with Chrono Trigger, and that was like impossible to me lol. Yes I know its easy now, all u need to do, is know every boss has a counter attack, and how to avoid triggering the counter attack)
FF10 is probably the FF to play if u rly wanna feel attached to characters (unless ur the type who easily gets attached, then older FFs will accomplish this on their own.) because of its voice acting. (voice acting adds a level of reality to characters and their personalities, that makes u like them more.)
FF9 is more of a "represents all of FF" type of game. its a basic fantasy, based on the previous titles, but with PS1 graphics. A game of general fun and fantasy. (Cartoony faces/models make it hard for some people to take seriously, including myself.)
FF8 is a bit harder for some newer people to get into, do to a necessity to get used to an odd junction system. (I was the type who refused to get used to it, and try to play it liek an older FF, but once i finally decided to play the game right, i enjoyed it a bit more) Some people NEED a more serious story, set in a world a bit more believable, FF8 and FF10 both have this imo. (Up to debate)
FF1-3 is hard to rly suggest to anyone, unless they become a die hard fan.

I'm looking for one with like a midevil sort of feel, sorta like zelda. I have seen many FF videos and most seem to be set further in time. I just want to play one with a good storyline and charicter customizing I guess. The only FF I've played believe it or not is FFXI ><

the only character customizing is in FF V(5) where you can change character classes or 'jobs' as you obtain them, I felt the story was a bit bland but thats my opinion. All Final fantasy games have a turn based/ change screen battle system. The only exception to this is FF XII (12) where they made the battles more real-time but there is still a turn-based element to it, it just feels more interactive. The story in 12, again my opinion, is garbage.
If your looking for good story I would recommend FF 6 and 4

well if ya wanna count allof them togeather... FF6 is my fav of all time but if ya wanna seperate based on graphics it be FF6 again (Terra/Tina FTW) for the sprite base and in the 3D catagory it be FF9
now this is on original releaces.. not remakes

ROMs are illegal. I'm not sure what this board's policy is on piracy, but I'd wager that if someone links you to a source, there'll be consequences.
Protip: Google is your friend. Also, it was called Final Fantasy III on SNES.

Damn, I'm glad you pointed this out. I don't want to get anyone in trouble. I have been watching you tube "Let's Play FF6" and was wondering why it says FFIII on title screen, why is this? And is there 2 versions of the game or something?

only ff1 ff4 and ff6 were published in that order to american shores, so they named them ff1 ff2 and ff3 respectively, wasn't until ffvii's release and the rereleases did they fix this
