I came back to FFXI a few weeks ago after going to WoW for about 2 years. Since i have started back my computer seems to be rebelling against me. I run FFXI in the SE windower and now it seems like all hell is broken loose. So far ffxi just goes *poof* randomly, my volume icon is missing, and ive got some sort of new sound program that pops up when i start my computer (well that one started after the baby decided to turn my computer on and play on it while i was at work). Now the last one i can find an excuse for, but the first two i have no idea how to go about fixing.

Today i was on ffxi and went to get a drink, when i came back, ffxi had crashed and my volume icon was missing. the only way i could get ffxi to start without crashing was to reboot my computer. it fixed my ffxi issue, but now i still dont have a volume icon and the vol. control buttons on my keyboard no longer work. I know my baby hadnt touched it, as she was busy trying to steal things out of the fridge when i was away from the computer. I have gone to the ctrl panel and thru the volume settings to try and manually clicking the box to display it, but it will not appear no matter how much i threaten and abuse it. I have tried copying the Sndvol32.exe item from one part of my computer to another as one web page had instructions to do, but still a no go. I'm not sure where my windows disk is so until i find that, i dont know if i can /explore that to copy the file from. I cannot seem to find a webpage that has it available to download either.

As for ffxi going *poof* i mean it just dissapears. no errors, no warning, just gone. it has happend when i have just been typing, doing nothing, and trying to switch between chars. it does not pop up the black screen of PoL closing for a second like it does when i do /shutdown. so i know i didnt type it by mistake. it just seems totally random.

also, i did just register the security token. and i have tried to log on without the 1 time password, but when i try to, it tells me that the SE password is invalid and will not let me log on until i enable the 1 time password. i was under the assumption that i could still log on without the 1 time password so long as i unclicked the box for it on the settings screen of my ffxi.

I'm just waiting for the next issue to pop up, but until then, is there anyone who can help/explain anything about these issues to me? i miss my volume button!

looks like you got tons of viruses on your comp. try get ridding of all the trojans and viruses.

did you uninstall WoW?

does your pc support FF11? check on the pol site, it's under Download.

try to enter sound system thru Control Panel.
if that doesn't work, go to Start > Run (on XP)> dxdiag , or Start > search dxdiag on Vista or windows 7. then play around with the sounds in there and see if something works.

Alternatively you can dl new sound system for you pc.. I have an old shitty pc that runs with ac97

you can dl ac97 here: http://www.softwarep...ities/ac97.html for XP or older.
and: http://www.softwarep...iver-vista.html
CLICK ON WHERE IT SAYS [Click here for Download*]

PS: I will not be held responsible for your already broken shitty pc if anything happens... which it shouldnt..

if none of the categories work, then you'll just have to find your Windows cd and format the whole pc.. best way to get rid of all the viruses too.

Thanks for the info! ill give it a shot tonight. I'm positive that ffxi works on my computer, as its the game i have had on it for about 4 years now, as its the first game I had on it. as for WoW I havnt un-installed it because i still play it occasionally. My comp isnt very shitty, lol. 90% of it is only a year or so old, the only thing that is older then 1 year is the hard drive. Ill run virus check later and see if it helps any along with a revamp and defrag. and a repair of ffxi and see how things work out. thanks again!

One antivirus that I absolutely swear by is Avast ( www.avast.com ). There's a really nice free version that has a resident...guard...thingy that has saved my butt on countless occasions and it doesn't slow our PC down while running in the background~

I hope you manage to sort out the deelio with your GFX card~!

hmm last time i had a compatability issue with my card it messed up all my video, not just the game i was playing, but ill have a look into it tomorrow. it's supposed to be a gaming card, so no idea why its not compatable. thanks for the help. :)

Edit: LYN! :D I got ticked off with S&D, lol its evil, but ill try it again tomorrow :P and i knew ffxi > wow a while ago, just was too stubborn to do anything about it xD

The problem is you're playing a seven year old video game on a relatively new graphics card. Since SE sucks at PC releases they failed to plan ahead or even properly do compatability testing until after the game was released and people complained that their supercomputers couldn't run the game effectively. This is why only FFXI has problems and the rest of your software runs pretty much as it should.

Rather than updating your drivers, you'd probably get better results from downgrading them to an older version. If you use the link above as a guide, you should be able to find a set of drivers that will make the game work.

what treelo is saying is... if you still have your old graph card that you used to play ffxi with, then you that one... you said it yourself that you upgraded everything on your pc xept hard drive... Plus out the newer graph and use the older one. You already told me that you pc ran ffxi with no problems before you started upgrading your pc with new high tech shit.

The hardware issues aside I'd say do all possible virus scans, you have something infected on your PC for sure since you keep sending Scudley automated MSN messages to go check out random porn sites. >_>

Hey Mil welcome back :o

That 100% sounds like a compatibility issue. One thing I have to ask: What operating system are you on? XP?

Most people will be using Windows XP SP3, Vista or Windows7. Any lower than this and I believe the game will not support/work effectively.

To be honest if the guy has viruses/trojans/worms and so within the computer my reccomendation is a complete HDD wipe and start over.

The reason why I say this is because of my friends computer a few months ago whilst fixing and cleaning the thing up I noticed he was using a virus package provided to him by his ISP. Well, having one installed is better than nothing I guess.

So I put a free version of AVG 8.0 (9.0 not available at the time) and as he hadn't done any proper maintenence on his computer (or better stll didn't know how to effectively) I found a long list of all kinds of Adware, Spyware, Malware and so on so forth embedded all over his computer. This is compared to the zero I found on his Virgin Media anti-virus system.

What I am saying is that even with some of the best anti-viral software on the market which picks up most things (most being the keyword) it ain't going to clear down everything on the computer and depending on the virus type it could have embedded/masked it self within different sections of the HDD.

This meaning it would be easier to do a complete wipe in the long run. Now I am not saying the guy who is having these problems is docile or doesn't know a thing about computers, but this is also the reason why you invest in an EXT-HDD to back up your needed files for the "just in case scenario" you have to wipe/lose everything.

Hi Miliinka
Don't know if you remember me or not. I use to be Leiana on the asura server.
I changed LS names all the time. I decided to check this site out because of
boredom. I'm shocked to see so many people still play this game. I left it
end of 2008. I got married last year, I just had my first baby in dec. I still can't
get over i'm someone's mom. She keeps me very busy, but I love her to death.

Are you and ravensky still together? I thought losing baby weight would be so
easy. It so is not, my husband let me pig out while I was pregnant. It was so
easy to put it on but so hard to get it off. Hope you're doing ok
