My post was less about advertising the fact she won parse than trying to praise a Crit build, actually, as there were no SAMs or DRGs, although I suspect she would have performed fairly well in comparison.
The other DDs were a well-merited WAR/NIN with Aurum body for a sTP build and Rune chopper/Refresh and the usual Haste setup (Byakkos, Dusk, Aurum feet etc. in other words, rather well geared) as well as two other MNK/NINs.
One was unmerited, the other one was merited about as much as the Monk with the Crit build, but wearing the "standard" Shura togi/Okotes/Acc rings etc. So in comparison, it outperformed the usual MNK/NIN gear setup (not that parses are any definite end-all, be-all evidence). That's all.

Osode is a fine soloing peice, depending on what you might be fighting (note the /dnc refrence). I also find it far more visually appealing than Togi for some reason, and Mirke is just plain ugly. Equipment needs to be swapped on occasion thought, so I can't really defend that one.

As far as body peices go imo,
Hachiryu Haramaki, Usukane Haramaki, Shura Togi(+1), Mirke Wadrecors(with acc/att+10), enkidu harness(it's decent if you don't have togi.) and that new Togi that came out that has str+4 and acc/att+8(shikkuko or some shit like that?)

All of those are decent choices, tho some much harder to obtain then others.

Osode IMO should only be used for chi blast, howling fist, dragon kick, and soloing /dnc on mnk.

Pure DEX builds are an exception for osode, but meh.

EDIT: Also, who cares if the body piece is ugly? If you don't like how it looks just .dat swap it with something else.

I'm not saying I'd wear something just because it looked good, but Osode was my town gear for exactly that reason. I also don't know or care enough to be bothered to .dat swap everything I don't care for in FFXI.

From my understanding it's

1. Usukane
2. Mirke
3. Enkidu
4. Togi
5. Osode


with Hachiryu somewhere in there I guess, maybe above Usukane if you don't have the full set. Osode is actually pretty good if your accuracy is otherwise capped.

For party, yeah I definitely agree with the standard Usukane/ Mirke/Togi/Enkidu thinking.

But it's also probably worth mentioning Arakan Samue for solo. I prefer the 12 Eva and 5 atk to most options when I'm soloing with an evasion setup. I'd use Samue over SH+1 in most cases, since most MNKs will be good for Acc on most stuff you solo with an evasion build. The Atk (and more minor benefits of Subtle Blow and rather high defense) tends to be more helpful. I'd rather use Samue over Osode as well, and it's a hell of a lot cheaper too.

Cobra Unit Harness is worth a mention as a decent second tier choice alongside stuff like SH (and +1) and Pahluwan. Good for a newer MNK working on the top endgame pieces. The 11 Acc, 6 Store TP, and Counter are handy, particularly the sTP for /DNC. Even the enmity- is nice in party situations to ensure you aren't pulling hate.

How is Arakan better than Enkidu for solo ? It's like en enkidu -1 with less atk, less agi and less subtle blow.

Arakan samue is pretty useless, unless your constantly soloing weak shit, in which case I'd still be wearing my togi to kill the mob faster, SH+1 has the same evasion, and +12 acc!
Remember that ACC helps to land counters.
The subtle blow that arakan samue gives is moot compared to killing the mob faster.
Acc + 12 will be more beneficial granted acc is uncapped.(most of the time, your acc won't be capped unless your fighting weak shit.)
Defense isn't worth mentioning due to counterstance also.

Arakan is trash.

As stated above, any mob worth stacking evasion for, you're going to want some acc too. Not only for counters, but to kill faster in general. The faster the mob dies, the less time the mob has to deal damage to you. Any mob that is weak enough for acc not to be an issue, you won't need THAT much evasion to begin with.
