So I was thinkin the other day about what keeps war from being a more common/better tank. These days there seems to be a shortage of tanks out there, so I end up tanking alot when I play my war. Right now I tank as /mnk which is fun and all but...

I look at dancer and think "man heals utilizing tp? that's awesome." however, since it uses tp my dmg will be in the shitter, but Im a war, every hit is a WS!

and I look at blue mage and think "heals and defense bonuses, that'd be sweet." however it uses mp, but doesnt look like it uses much, maybe FoV refreshes would keep it up well enough.

I've seen people talk about either of these subs but nothing really in depth, and I want to try one and see if it could put war on the map as a tank as I'm getting into later levels.

However, since I restarted the game I haven't had time for leveling tons of subs and as it is I already keep thf, drg, sam, and mnk, leveled so I'm not to keen on tackling two more subs just to see which is better for what I want it for.

So I want to hear what you guys think. what are your ideas on this? I dont get around alot so I dont know alot about either jobs especially as subs for the purposes of tanking. I know the info on wki, but theory is much different from reality.

i've used WAR/DNC to tank my parties, works pretty well on everything other than Colibri and imps. Just need to have enough ACC to land your swings.

This is something I've always wanted to test, I know WAR does have tanking potential but I never got a chance to try it mostly since I had PLD leveled.

I always prefered 3 WAR/NINs bouncing hate off each other, you hardly took damage unless something went wrong and did some good damage while you were at it. Though I doubt it'd work on Colibri except Greater unless you can kill fast since Pecking Flurry will wipe shadows and if you have all your WARs shadowles you're kind of SoL.

WAR/MNK is best until your healer gets enough to do without you blood-tanking (30s?). Between Provoke and Boost nothing will pull hate off you, and counter works to reduce damage if your accuracy is any good.

After your healer has enough to do without you blood-tanking, /NIN is the way to go until 70.

70-74, you should sub Samurai.

74+, you still /SAM in situations where you're quasi-tanking but there are several other DDs that can pull hate off you, but /NIN for when something hits for 250 damage a swing and there's only two other DDs or when you can't trust the other DDs to pull hate at all.

What short supply of tanks is there?

Low level XP parties it doesn't matter since your defense differs between jobs by like 10. Your tank is the tallest race (galka > elvaan etc).

Merit parties you just bounce hate.

End game war fails from lacking non-meleeing tools for CE. Same reason why nin/war sucks.
