Well I was wondering, what is happening to parties nowadays??? I've been looking for party as WAR all day long for 3 days, with level sync OK in party search comment and nothing. Now I switched to BLM and same problem today. My brother has been looking for pt as WHM and hasn't got any invites. My friend told me that FFXI is dieing because he also didn't get party as any job he wanted to level up. What do you think???
What's happening to parties??? Haven't got a party in 4 days

It's wrong to argue that a game is dying just because you don't get party invites. There's plenty of other explanations. And, not to state the obvious, but have you tried making your own parties?

1. What level are you?
2. BLM will hardly ever get any invites, period
3. FoV and WAR/DNC makes for a nice combo
4. Yes there seems to be a decline of players on some servers

Funny how you should mention this during the Christmas/New Year period when most people are too busy putting on weight, soaking their liver in alcohol, or just visiting family. Coincidence? I think not.
With that said, this is hardly a new thing, either level a job people actually want to invite or make your own parties. Less QQing = moar pewpewing.

Sorry but FFXI IS dying.
On fairy server, you can notice it simply typing /sea all 75 inv.
Result: 6 ppl lfg
I remember less then 1 year ago there were at least 15ppl lfg.

that's not a sign of the game dying. that's a sign that people have other means of meriting that they are choosing to do. most LS's (especially endgame) will do "LS party onry", where they drag the neighborhood BRD to camp. Obviously you won't see them lfg'ing.
Then there's SMN burns. Then there's campaign. Then there's FoV. Or even /BST or /DNC'ing it up.
The game's not dying. People just have more reliable means of meriting than pick up parties.

I don't know if I'd say it's DYING, but it's definitely slowed down a lot when compared to how it used to be... I played for the first 3.5 years after NA release and it was busy busy busy. The Lower Jeuno AH was always crowded as hell, now I notice about a dozen people there at any given time (this is on Lakshmi server btw, dunno about others.)
I've been trying to get a party for my 24 WHM for a little over a week now without luck. I think the dying aspect is more noticable if you played back in FFXI's heyday and now return as a noobie trying to level up again. mid - high levels may be different, I don't know. I haven't been able to get a job to 30 to even get my advance jobs yet XD.
That's my observation though.

The server populations ARE slowly dwindling away, so I guess you could say that ffxi is in the process of slowly dying, although there will be people still playing for many years to come. They really need to server merge the unpopular servers pretty soon.

I think a server merge would be a good idea. I enjoy playing and all, but I really need a party if Imma get my WHM to 37 lol.

I believe Treelo put it best... Did you not even in the least take into account the time of year and the fact people are going to be be doing family things and getting shmammered at parties?

And how many are there in the city that people actually use?
Jeuno used to be popular because it offered relatively quick transportation to other cities via airships. WG offers instant transportation to Jeuno, your home nation (from where you can outpost to any conquest region), and just about every camp you'll see after level 55, and still contains the same AH as Jeuno. So, no, unless you're sitting around LFP level 20~35 or sitting around waiting for Limbus to start, there's not much point to using the Jeuno AH.

That's a good point. But the fact still remains that at the lower levels, you don't see many people at all. I've seen one party in dunes in the past couple of weeks... I think that some one coming to FFXI without any prior knowledge of it is going to think the servers are deserted lol.

The game IS dying, but you need to consider...
Christmas was a few days ago, some people stay out of town until the new year.
Some people are going to parties and shit between X-mas and New Years, and come back too drunk/tired to play a dying game.
Wait until the new year, the invites will pick up by roughly .000001% Hang in there!

You also need to understand everybody got tons of stuff to do with christmas.
I got a tomtom, iTouch, a DSi, another 4 gigs of ram rounding my total up to 12. Oh, and an electric razor. I haven't found a use for that yet, but I'm considering shaving my stuffed animals...
Some people got games or other things which will eat their time up more than FFXI for about a month, too. Be patient.

That's creepy, considering I got a tomtom and new electric razor as well.... though the Tomtom was more of a gift I got on Black Friday >.>
