I am absolutely no techie but my laptop picks up wireless networks and ill admit it we piggyback for the computer cuz never doing anything important. For FFXI im on ps2.
The point is that one of the networks my comp picks up is linksys and it is second strongest on my available list so i use it sometimes however when i do I notice (esp. on msgr) that it disconnects and reconnects A LOT. ya like every 3-5 mins
Now i have no earthly idea what my wireless connxn and your connxn have in common besides the fact that they both linksys and have no idea if this is even relevent but maybe try a different network
hope it works out for you

I had the same problem pop up on me on monday the 25th, I contacted square-enix and all they did is copy and paste info to open ports which I had open and even did DMZ and then hook the main line directly to the back of my pc. They then had me contact my ISP, and my ISP never found any problems with the routing to Square-enix's servers and any lost packets. They were still investigating when I then searched these forums for the error I was getting which was ffxi-4002 and found this which completely fixed it for me:

POL Viewer > Network settings > change the setting on connection check
