This is something that I've been thinking about doing for a while. The FFXIV site is growing with more art and screenshots of the characters similar to the ones we've played for so long and I wanted to make a comparison picture. Like it, hate it, I dont care, here it is.

At best this should please all those who wanted graphical upgrades for FFXI. At worst all the nay-sayers can bitch about lack of originality/FFXI-2.

Some might call it lack of originality but I see it as an 'ease of transition' from one game to the next. I love the familiarity of it all and thats why I'll have no problems putting down XI and playing XIV.

Delicious HD Miqo'te. You must stroke their tail in the back alleys.

When I seen this I finally thought I'd see my model in HQ, thanks a lot for getting my hopes up Brayker D:
On a serious note you're off on 2 IMO. First Miq'ote should be face 1A's mithra. And the last galka should be the black hair counterpart of the one on the right.

Although your concept of comparing the graphics between the two games would be eye opening, the examples you used to make this comparison are completely different in style.
The FFXIV images you used are pre-rendered and the FFXI images you used were rendered in-game at the character creation phase. The difference between these two types is very significant.
It is difficult to compare FFXIV in-game graphics to FFXI because there are limited in-game close ups of FFXIV character model faces, like the character creation process, to make an accurate comparison.
The pre-rendered images you used are more or less artwork, in which case you would have to relate it to pre-rendered FFXI artwork such as this example of an Elvaan:

And as we both know, this does not portray how Elvaan’s look in-game very well. With this example you can also conclude that you can’t determine in-game graphics based on pre-rendered images.

meh, I just used what I could find. I'll make another pic when more close-ups are done of in-game characters. I thought it would be nice for people who might not have seen some of the images on the FFXIV site to see this and say "Hey theres my model in HD!"
Again someone turns some fun little project into "You did this wrong, and this wrong, and THIS is wrong! this is how it should have been"
FLAME WAR BEGIN!

your comment was correcting some mistakes that I made, I dont mind that. It's sometimes tough to tell with the high-rez images which originals they came from. His comment was about ripping the entire concept apart and telling me "Your doing it wrong!"
Edit: I redid the pic and corrected the mithra and galka to be more accurate. I think I got the last XI galka on the right correct.

I like the concept, definitely. I don't think you should be offended that I politely pointed out the significant inaccuracies so that people are informed. It's a collaborative public forum, users will notice mistakes they will point them out. Nothing against you...

sorry, I've had a really bad 2 weeks with working nights and sleeping 2 hrs at a time. At the moment I just got off a 9 hour shift and I still have to wait 5 hours to see my chiropractor, then its back to work! I get cranky and sometimes don't read things the way they are intended. I understand your criticisms and that the images aren't from the same source and cant be accurately compared.
Anyway, off to try and stay awake till my appointment

the select screan and ingame are different.
my taru 2 b has puffier hair in the selection.
there is a female taru with blue hair in the section (female 5a) that is showen with brown eyes. in game her eyes are blue.
all the tarus with highlights are showen with less red compared to the game. In game the red part is darker and more of it
