Hello, Titan

I got my Holy Fragment this past Saturday thanks to help from CallofKthulu and RavenDynamis LSes (with a special guest appearance by Wiggan). It went remarkably smooth (and remarkably laggy--I haven't seen a dynamis run with that many people in years) and I thank Raven for cooperating with CoK in order to make this happen.

So now the time has finally come to take my savings which I've amassed for this very day and buy the rest of the o.bronze that I need. As of now I need 1,227 ordelles bronzepieces and then I'm done! Forever! I could run straight to Davoi and then immediately to Dragon's Aery if I had 1227 more coins in hand! So if anyone has any stashes of bronze they'd be willing to sell for 12k or any silvers they'd be willing to sell for 1.2million, please send me a /tell and I'll be much obliged. Thanks guys. Yeah Xerlic, back in my earliest days of DV my plan was simple... Step 1) Get 5/5 RDM AFv2. Step 2) Get Excalibur. (Oh how naive!) From the start I was hoarding every little coin I got my mitts on. Things really didn't take off (I was only passively "upgrading") until I lucked into an Attestation of Glory during a run going for shield attestation in Oct. '07. Then I kicked farming into high gear, started sponsoring runs, and got Caliburn 11 months after I got the attestation (I was hell-bent on proving that it wasn't wasted on me). Now I'm down to needing 1032 coins to be able to make the final trade.

There'll be a huge list of "thank you"s to come when I finish--for now I'll just mention to you two that I thank you for those Byakkos we killed together with Ichthyos &co., we got some decent gil from those. ^^

POIDH !!! seriously tho, dude congrats !! but i do wanna see some sweet pics. I think remember back in the day you were a Monk, Hazen, around the same time i was leveling mine too. I think we were even right around the same level for a looong time but you always had better gears >.<

My WS sets aren't as complete. I've not yet hammered out all the best choices for Death Blossom and Vorpal Blade, but have lumped both WSes into one set of gear changes. As for Knights of Round I've basically gotten most of the STR and MND I can get a hold of outside of Morrigan gear (or Maat's Cap or silly rare things like Ifrit's Bow), which is my next major goal in FFXI.

Thank you to everyone who's helped me through the years. Thank you to everyone who ever sold me so much as one coin, all were for less than p.jeuno (i.e. inflated) prices, and some were even below shout prices. I got my Attestation in Particle, my Fragment in a joint CoK-Raven run, thanks to all those who came to that, 53 people vs. Animated Longsword was a slaughter. I also have to thank all the shells I did dynamis with week after week--where I got a good many of my coins, starting with the hoarding freelots and moving on to sponsorship later in Dynamis(re)Vengeance, and Visigoth's too-short-lived dynamis career that filled in the Tuesdays between some of those DV runs. Particle was another shell I did dynamis with later on, and was where I got my Attestation of Glory. Luckiest day ever, only ever having to see that Goublefaupe guy one time for my paper. 11 months later I got Caliburn, thanks to help from Chanchan and thanks to all the people who sold me Jades. After a long break from dynamis I started doing them again with CallOfKthuluLS, who I do it with now, where I continued to sponsor and where I got my fragment while teamed up with Raven for a couple runs. Thanks to Raven and CoK both for showing up in full force and helping make those two xarc runs the best I'd ever seen.

Thanks to all the people who randomly drop by to give me a bronze they got in campaign. Thanks to all the people who held on to sell to me when they could've just sat next to Poron or whoever and gotten 15k per coin. Thanks to all the people who helped me make money too--from BC/ENM partners to farming buddies in tree or bhaflau or wherever. Thanks to the members of our low-man Byakko runs that scored me a small fortune at the start of my saving for the goldpiece. Even thanks to Kang for soloing for Fomor Codexes and having me come down to lot a 2nd one to sell for myself! Thanks to all the people who helped me camp NMs for the ra/ex items for my gear sets and thanks to the people who I turned to for advice and number-crunching to make sure I made a build as worthy of the sword as RDM can wear. Thanks to the people who cheered me on and encouraged me, even as I wondered sometimes if I'd ever finish.

Thanks especially to Hankthetank, Chanchan, Wiggan, Renegade, Bloodwarrior, Kyoma, Ichthyos, Sedna, Luckmo&Daijiyea in that regard. They all either gave me opportunities, advice, or assistance on my journey, or were otherwise responsible for enabling me to have this sword in hand today. Whether the chance to sponsor, the chance to lot attestation, the opportunities to make major money, money as a gift, silvers as a gift, or the 30silver loan--without any one of them I wouldn't have it right now.

First thing I did with it was meripo. It was exactly what I'd thought it would be--fun and a boon to my DOT. Those five minutes I had a pizza+1 on were the best five minutes of meleeing I've ever done. I enjoyed having 640 attack (for only 3min of those first 5min though!), I enjoyed 2.5x proc critting for what looks like a 2-hander's crit, I enjoyed the additional effect, especially when it proc'd 2 or 3 times on one bird! KoR ain't amazing, but it sure is pretty. And I think it will take a while for me to get sick of it.

To those who'd deride me: Go ahead and give me grief for being a Red Mage with a melee build and relic, get it out of your system--that I'm some kind of horrid blemish upon the FFXI landscape for making all those hardcore, serious players apoplectic over wasting currency on a sword for a RDM, blah blah blah. Will I be doing amazing endgame shit with it on RDM? No, I'm not so delusional as that. Will I be ruling the parse for meripos left and right? Nope. At least, even though I'm a DD RDM, I'm a DD RDM who actually has good gear. I'm going to have fun, and I heard this crazy notion somewhere that sometimes people actually play games... for fun! Yeah, I think I'm one of those, so I think I'll be pretty happy with this. ^^

Grats man. People can hate on melee RDM, but the fact is you earned that sword fair and square after a long journey. Enjoy it.
