well it was a 'console exclusive' at announcement.. as in, the only console that it would be released on at launch.. but then what difference does that make if its another console or a PC. they're both technically competitor platforms.

I'm going to love hearing "360 limitations" in the future.

In my post here on Eorzeapedia, I mentioned that there probably won't be a "360 limitation" because of the simple fact that Crystal Tools was said to be scalable to the system it's on. It can even work on the Wii but with certain features removed obviously.

The very best example of Crystal Tools scalability in action is FFXIII right now. So, to get an idea how FFXIV will look like, look at FFXIII as an example.

On the 360, FFXIII is shown to be running at 1024x576 with 2x AA (anti-aliasing). There are slight color and texture differences, as well as brightness and contrast. There seems to be a few objects removed or slightly lesser drawing distance.

On the PS3, FFXIII is shown to be running at 1280x720 with 2x MSAA (multi-sampling AA). The PS3 has slightly better color, texture, brightness and contrast over the 360.

But, overall, the differences between the 360 and PS3 is indiscernible unless you have a very good eye. So, if the Crystal Tools is truly scalable, then the engine running on a PC will reflect that system's specifications. It'll still look the same no matter what. However, to those with an eye for details will probably go for a high end system to exploit what's possible in the Crystal Tools. I would have to say that at minimum you need a very good DX9 PC and it will give you a FFXIV that looks like what it is on the 360 and PS3. If you have a high-end DX10/DX11 capable system, and IF Crystal Tools has been programmed to use DX10/DX11 on a capable PC, then having a high end PC system with a DX10/DX11 video card will give you the best looking FFXIV experience.

I don't believe the memory of the 360 (512 MB shared between GPU and system) or the PS3 (256 MB for GPU, 256 MB for system) will pose a problem. That is in stark contrast to the PS2 where we couldn't get storage higher than 161 spaces (one 80 main, one 80 secondary, and a last one for Gil). And, since the 360 has a 250 GB hard drive and the PS3's hard drive is practically easily and cheaply upgradeable (500 GB 2.5-inch drives are out, with 600 GB and higher coming soon), storage for future expansions shouldn't be an issue either. And, like I said above, Crystal Tools is scalable, so it will and IT SHOULD run at what is the possible maximum settings on each type of system-- 360, PS3, or PC-- with NO obvious or very discernible differences.

Therefore, "360 limitation" would be completely unfounded. The only thing that you, as a FFXI fan or player, has to worry about is the quality and consistency of the FFXIV dev team, and Square-Enix themselves. If they bring over the problems from FFXI into FFXIV, consider the next SE MMO to be problematic in the years to come. If they learned from past mistakes, and I hope they have, then FFXIV may give a better experience than what SE has done in FFXI.

The 360 actually runs pretty decent, and is almost as good as the PS3. The only real drawback they've got is diskspace... something an MMO isn't gonna be concerned that much about.

I won't be surprised when it eventually does land on the 360. I really don't see why not, if a PS3 can handle this, an Xbox surely could, right? I'm still undecided what system I'll play it on anyway...still considering my PC over the PS3, however my PC is kinda out-dated and haven't upgraded it in awhile.

What i can comment 100% is that PSN has no plans to charge any user fee, not now, not when XIV is out. For Micro$oft most likely need people to get Gold Member, but it's only an assumption from my part.

Just wanted to give a heads up, I was at GDC last week hanging out with some other developers and I got a chance to hang with people from SE. They said that i hasn't been announced, but that there's a "very good chance" that it will. That's their way of saying YES when they are tongue-tied lol So yeah, i'd say this is going to happen. It'd be kind of stupid not to anyway.

I will play on whichever system I don't have to pay an additional service charge on for internet. And if both charge you, I won't play it. I don't feel like upgrading my PC to do so.

I'd have to go with No. Honestly I don't care for the Xbox, despite the fact that I own one and have a gold membership. Too prone to overheating, I'd probably burn mine out within a month. Chances are good that once the beta's goin full steam and I can get a feel for what specs to shoot for I'll be building a gaming PC. Always wanted to build my own and the way things are falling into place, now's the perfect time to do it.
