I get a lot of people asking me about soloing on COR and certain aspects of how it is done and what gear is needed, so I thought it would be easier to make a guide for it seeing as there isn’t one on KI at the moment. This guide is purely from a solo point of view, so no bashing I don’t mention Leaden Salute sets or anything like that
I also don’t list how to get all this gear as it would simply be impractical and make the guide too lengthy, I give you the items in question, I am sure you can look up how to obtain them.
The Basics:
Quick Draw is a magic attack corsair can perform every minute unmerited and with no acp body. It holds 2 charges which both have the same 1 minute recast timer. Quick Draw can be used from a max distance of 18” and is multi directional meaning you do not need to be facing the target to perform a Quick Draw. To perform a Quick Draw you need to have a Gun and Bullet equipped as well as the elemental card of the shot you wish to perform. The card is consumed in the attack, however your bullets are not.
Cards:
To perform a quick Draw you need to have the corresponding elemental card, eg Fire Shot requires a Fire Card. These cards can be purchased from NPC’s such as Jarjaroon in Nashmau for 48 gil a card, Jidwahn on the Silver Sea Route to Nashmau also stocks Light/Dark/Ice/Thunder for 38 gil a card but he only holds 180 of each. They can also be crafted, the recipe differing only on the elemental cluster used influences the card outcome (fire cluster makes fire cards etc).
Alchemy (17)
Yield: Light Card x 33
HQ 1: Light Card x 66
HQ 2: Light Card x 99
HQ 3: Light Card x 99
Light Crystal
1 x Light Cluster
1 x Mercury
1 x Polyflan Paper
Damage formula:
Damage formula: [2*(Gun DMG + Ammo DMG)*(1+MAB%) + (Corsair's Tricorne Bonus)]*(Staff)*(Day)*(Weather).
MaB% = MaB/100
The damage of Quick Draw is effected by your MaB, bullet damage and gun damage. The accuracy of your shots is affected by AGI. Many endgame COR will say that Magic Acc also effects Quick Draw accuracy, although no concrete testing has been done it is fairly noticeable on highly resistant mobs like Tiamat or Kirin if you have Warlocks Roll up or not.
A common mistake people will make is thinking INT affects Quick Draw due to it being a Magic based attack. INT does not affect quick draw.
Due to the addition of the Veuglaire gun, cor now has Magic Attack. It is uncertain about how this compares to magic attack bonus, preliminary testing has shown it to work in the same way as magic attack bonus.
Logistics for a Cor solo:
Cor soloing requires certain key elements, firstly investigate the mob you are attempting to solo, does it have Magic Defense bonus? Does it have a rage timer? Does it have movement speed? Does it have pets that can/need to be depopped? Knowing the mob and how to deal with situations that may arise is very handy in the heat of the solo.
Secondly is there a useable kite path? It does not have to be 100% clear, for example soloing Bloodlapper the kite path involves avoiding alot of Goblin and Gnat aggro but it is still soloable. Kiting around large landmarks can also work effectively.
Gear:
Main: Elemental Staves for shots, HQ being the best
Grip: Elemental grips or Reaver(+1)
Ranged: There are a variety of guns you can use, in order they are Veuglaire < Murderer with earring < Corsairs Gun < Corsairs gun +1 < Corsairs Gun with over +2 MaB augment < Corsairs Gun +1 with any MaB augment < Death Penalty. Steel bullet is obviously used.
Head: Corsair’s Tricorne (+1)
Neck: Uggalepih pendant, or if you can’t afford one, Caract Choker is a free option.
Earrings: Novio and Moldavite Earring are the best combo for max MaB, you can also get the Diamond Earring from AcP if you don’t have access to a novio, it can give up to 2 MaB or the Aptus Earring from shantotto arc with +1~2 Macc and MaB. Helenus's Earring and Cassandra’s Earrings can also be paired up to give MaB +5 MAcc +5. Supremacy Earring if you are opting for a Murderer. If you don’t have access to any of these plain Drone Earrings will suffice.
Body: If you are a serious cor and plan on doing alot of soloing i would highly recommend the AcP body with Quick Draw ability delay -5, MaB +5, its just plain sexy. If you cannot, Denali Body is a nice alternative, failing that the next best body you can get with the most AGI on it.
Hands: Rover’s Glovers > Skadi Gloves > Commodore Gant’s
Rings: Breeze are the most AGI aside from augmented rings you can get, I personally use a Breeze and Omega ring for the Macc.
Back: The Commanders cape and Fowler’s Mantle +1 both have 3 AGI and are currently the best options, aside from those any AGI back will be fine.
Waist: Elemental Obi’s, if there is no specific element, Scouter’s Rope for AGI +4
Legs: Here we have a choice, for soloing you can use crimson/blood legs for Movement Speed +12%, however i would not recommend this as it leads to a loss of MaB. Personally i would go for Nimue’s Tights (MaB +4) or Denali Legs (MaB+3 Macc +3). You can take the middle ground with the Shantotto Arc legs (Desultor tassets) they can be augmented with MaB +4 and either Movement Speed +8% or Macc +4.(NB the 8% does not stack with Skadi or hermes)
Feet: I would recommend Hermes Sandals or Skadi Feet, aside from these you just get AGI on your feet, as an Elvaan i use my RSE feet with 6 AGI, i think the AF+1 feet have the most AGI for non elvaan.
Gear to consider: An idle set consisting of Jelly Ring and Terra’s Staff can be useful to reduce dmg while kiting. Regen gear including Garden Bangles and Orochi Nodowa can also be handy. Commodore Frac for Random Deal and Commodore Tricorne to enhanse rolls.
Merits:
I would recommend
Group 1
Quick Draw Recast 5/5, Quick Draw Acc 5/5
Group 2
Snake Eye 5/5, Fold 4/5, Loaded Deck 1/5
These are purely the best solo options, if you do salvage or certain activities that would benefit from longer rolls, I can see the reasoning of putting the Loaded Deck merit in Winning Streak, SE and Fold are invaluable however as they lead to the best possible rolls.
Macros:
/equip main "Vulcan's Staff"
/ja "Fire Shot" <t>
/equip main "Terra's Staff"
This will cause the animation to blink and will make you able to continue running, it can be done with all of your JA. For example
/equip head “Commodore Tricorne”
/ja “Wizards Roll” <me>
/equip head “Corsairs Tricorne +1”
Sometimes i'll notice after the macro processes i will be left with my Vulcans staff on, thus next time i do a shot, the animation will not be blinked as there is no staff change.
Easily remedied by having an equip Terra's Staff macro, but life saving in cor soloing where not having that macro process is the difference between the win and fail.
Rolls
You will use 3 rolls while soloing
Wizards Roll - MaB Roll, Lucky 5 Unlucy 9, Obviously used to increase your Quick draw damage
Warlocks Roll - Macc Roll, Lucky 4 Unlucky 8, Increases Quick Draw acc
Dancer's Roll - Regen effect roll, Lucky 3 Unlucky 7, when you take damage and need to recover HP, this roll is a lifesaver
Support Jobs
BLM
Pros: most damaging support job due to its MaB II Trait, also useful for activating Ugg latent with use of spike spells
Cons: No defence in any form of SS or shadows
RDM
Pros: MaB I trait and access to cures and Stoneskin/Blink
Cons: Not as damaging as /blm, spells take time to cast and in a solo situation can be very impractical if not impossible to cast any spells
NIN
Pros: Shadows are fast casting and can help a lot if your trying a solo for the first time. Also helps if your soloing target casts single target magic.
Cons: No MaB traits so damage is noticeably lower
BLU
Pros: Cocoon for Def, Pollen for cheap cures and equipping Cursed Sphere and Sound Blast give you MaB trait, also equipping Foot Kick + Chaotic Eye + Smite of Rage = +5 AGI
Cons: Spells take time to cast and again can be impractical, not as damaging as blm.
Have fun!
Experiment with you solo’s and try to have fun with them. I’m sure i have missed some stuff , but this has been done to the best of my knowledge and I hope it inspires more COR to try solo’s.
