So I have been itching to lv a new job. Basically one that solo's very good and I was told dnc is the best solo job that doesnt require a pet. I do not know to much about dnc, use to duo in mire with one and that was fun seeing him self darkness on flys nearly 1 shotting them haha. But overall I could care less about xp mobs as i can kill any of them already on my jobs I have. I am more curious about NM hunting aka Bune, Charby, Behemoth, Roc, Sim, serket, scnms, kretz, limbus zones, you get the idea (gil making mobs that are hard to solo).

So my debate comes down to deciding between Nin or Dnc for my "solo" job. I don't plan to ever be using either at events since I have other much needed jobs and neither are very wanted anyhow at endgame.

So purely from a NM soloing job perspective would it be better for me to lv Nin or Dnc? Is there certain NMs one can solo that the other can not? I seems the benefit is for Nin since they can debuff the mob, while Dnc get bigger cures. Nin also seems it would kill stuff in a much faster time since their dots much higher. However I really don't know and I hear from people that dnc is better overall (not sure why).

As for what i have to work with. I will have no dagger/sword/katana merits as I have 8 h2h 8 polearm and 4 undecided but may go into gkt. Gear wise since I have mnk and sam already I have most the needed Nin gear, and for Dnc I have full enkidus sets and can get most the needed things like ermaines tail etc.

So what would you guys suggest for a purely "will only be on it to solo" job? I understand this is the dnc forum so it will be biased, but I didnt want to post on the nin forum since itll turn into how pld>nin etc etc whining thred which will not help me since i dont plan to be on nin for events anyhow. i would level both to 37, as both have advantages for subjobs. from there you should be able to decide which one you'd like to level further. i think either way nin/dnc or dnc/nin might be fun to do for certain events

both are at 37 right now, just thats not really sufficient to gauge how they will handle at 75 in a solo situation on hard mobs which is why I was looking for some input XD. Main worry is I know they are very similar in terms of soloing, but One must be better than the other fot my goals which is the main reason for the post, don't want to lv the wrong one if it cannot do what I need as well as the other.

Personally, I feel DNC is a stronger solo option for NMs. I'll try to list a few out

Violent Flourish (Stunning a mob for shadow recast is excellent)
Stutter step (reduce Magic resistance to increase stun chance for shadow recast)
Sambas (Drain Samba is very effective for helping to keep your HP up)
Erase (Healing Waltz)
Gravity (Violent Flourish)
Good evasion skill and 3 ranks of Evasion bonus
Fan Dance (This move is amazing, 90% damage reduction at start, and drops 10% reduction per hit you take. bottoms out at 20%, 5m recast 5m duration)
Saber dance (Out of TP? Saber Dance starts you at a whopping 50% DA rate for quickly getting TP up, healing yourself from Drain Samba, and dealing damage)
No Foot rise (Instant Finishing Moves for TP or stun)
Closed Position (increases ACC/EVA when monster is facing you)

The only thing DNC really lacks is the ability to paralyze/slow/blind the mob. However, having a natural ability to stun can make up for it, and is easier to count on for shadow recasting. They are laos less squishy, thanks to Fan Dance GREATLY reducing damage taken.

Yes, they will kill slower than a NIN, but they are much more capable of surviving the longer battles.

Yes, they will kill slower than a NIN, but they are nearly as capable as a nin is at surviving the longer battles that don't require slow to keep shadows up.

Your OP said, "best soloing job without pet". I'm pretty sure RDM is the best soloing job without a pet, as demonstrated by countless people. I don't know about NIN or DNC one being better than the other, I'm sure both have NMs one can kill the other can't from minute differences but RDM is better than both of them soloing wise fo sho.

There's nothing DNC can solo that NIN can't, but I'm willing to bet there are a number of things that NIN can that DNC can't.

If you're looking for a solo job I would recommend rdm or bst. I have both 75 and love them both. I do solo on RDM more than BST, but BST is always fun. I know I am off topic about the jobs you asked about. But RDM and BST are some of the better soloing jobs imo

im galka so rdm i kinda want to stray from, plus fighting over rdm af2 hat and dalmy is kinda not going to happen. Oh that and i dislike mage jobs. As for bst I dont very much enjoy pet based jobs, though I do have pup but its different. I like the idea of actually fighting stuff, not running while they die trying to catch you. Just preference. So it seems that by lving Nin i can do anything a dnc would, but more? If thats the case I will lv nin which will work good since I have good gear for it and will be going for full usu anyhow now.

nah its more me being a galka and uhh hating mages lmao.

I have sch atm 75 but it plays very well for galka due to 80 mp nukes and stuff which is perfect for the job, practically all my nukes uggy is active for >.>

Even if ninja is a better soloist than dancer, its a marginal edge at the absolute most.. And ninja is bottom of the barrel for absolutely everything else, while competent dancers are in extreme demand for a plethora of activities at all levels.

True among some circles, but a lot of groups just don't use dancer at all.

I personally have never seen a dnc in any pty outside of xping. Maybe my shell is different but NEVER do we use dnc for anything, not saying this is good or bad just dont see it lol. I have still yet been able to find a dnc with 5 haste samba merits either on my server so in meripo they do not exist either.
