So I've had my GMB for a good while now, just never really been that avid user of it (i forget to!) but lately ive been using it more. I just have a small problem with it... It seems to do less damage than Darksteel Bolts! Now I'm not sure if it's just me screwing up from eyeballing, but it seems like such a large difference!
For my little "test" I just went outside to shoot some Lesser Colibri as RNG/SAM. Meditated up and shot off a normal DS ws - 1998dmg. Now I meditated up again, stood at same spot (round 10') and fired off a GMB ws with exact same gear - 1663 dmg. As i said, there were no variables, had VS and Hasso up for both, no food, same distance.
Has anyone else had this kind of problem? I know it's a small sample ofc, but with Ratk's stable pDif and the birds being within a maximum of 2 levels difference, it's pretty solid.

So through a bit more testing it's starting to look like GMB has a different sweet spot than darksteel bolts. The really funny part? It's way outside 14,5' so DS bolts will always outdamage GMB on ws, at least for Obow. Though, at max ws range the damage gap was way smaller (GMB 1900ish vs DS 1990ish).

Edit: Ok scratch that, it's not the distance, doing more testing

Just shoot at level 0 mobs already. Attacking even Lesser Colibri makes the whole process messy in the testing phase (not that I have any doubt that GMB does more damage).

Tunnel Worms S Gusta

DS Bolt: 2385 2385
GMB: 2109 2109
RNG/SAM at 6,9'

Talked to GM and he would report it.

Edit: SlugShots btw, if that wasnt clear. Weird thing is that it's working fine on normal shots, it just does less on ws for me

Ok i found it lol. i had a /wait 2 - /equip ammo after ws. Apparently that makes it do less. Sorry if this is common knowledge, but I had no idea.

What? That has nothing to do with the damage you'd do.

My GMB macroing was:

Alt-8:
/ja "Unlimited Shot" <me>

Alt-9:
//exec rngwsstr.txt
/equip ammo "Gld.Msk.Bolt"
/ws "Slug Shot" <t>
/wait 2
/equip ammo

This made my ws do less than with a DS bolt. I then moved the /equip gmb to the US macro and new ws macro:

Alt-9:
//exec rngwsstr.txt
/ws "Slug Shot" <t>
/wait 1
/equip ammo

Now God knows why, but this now works as it should

I can tell you exactly why.

Switching ammo before WS is not instant. You can verify this by removing your ammo and then executing the following macro:

/equip Ammo "Darksteel Bolt"
/ws "Slug Shot" <t>

It will fail, as if you were out of ammo. You need to have a /wait 1 in between your ammo change and your WS activation.

Your problem, then, was generated because you were actually WSing in your TP (holy/acid) ammo.

Cliff notes: you were doing it wrong.

Yeah I just didn't know that about macros, seeing as all other gear is instant changing. But now I'm just glad I didn't waste all those merits on US :P
