Seems kind of boring to me
. I'm still happy we're getting anything though.

If you can use Release, chances are that you can also use Assault. Odin didn't attack the Imp because it didn't go after the Summoner.

I would be so happy if when you summon it with your 2hr you can keep it out until your MP is gone. I would also like it to be able to auto attack and be more powerful than the traditional avatars.

I'm just saying that the limitation of using Astral Flow AND being unable to switch avatars at all is already a pretty big one. Not being able to at least use Assault would be quite stupid.

uh oh where asking how to use them!! The world is going to explode!
Well Upon using Astra Flow I hope u can keep them out as long as u can depending on MP not the duration of Astra Flow.
Yeah pretty much this sorry missed your post dark =D

this has been the most commonly expressed opinion i've heard of using the 2hr logically.
If it doesn't limit what you do BEFORE summoning alex/odin, then u can probably squeeze in 1-3 Astral Flow BPs before summoning them. To what I know and can see from the video, neither Perfect Defense nor Zantetsuken are actually triggered by Blood Pacts at all, so they're not limited by the timer in that sense. However, they do use up all your MP (i doubt theres a minimum of LVx2 mp involved too, but who knows) and the amount of MP you blow counts a lot to the effects.. so you might not want to do it as the effect isn't as great (but then again, why not.. if you've already blown MP for AFBPs you still won't have enough MP for anything in a while...)
That, or whenever you feel like doing this, get a Vile Elixir+1 so that you'll at least fire off with a 55% mp salvo... and have a WHM friend on standby to Devotion you.

Anything on Avatar's Favor? Like Odin giving everyone double attack or Alexander granting ... err.. counterattack?

yeah right =/ this is SE!
I wonder...Alex can't move(Maybe) so I hope his perfect defense move assuming its aura type better be a big area would suck to smn Alex and can't reposition him......

Must say I was very excited when I first saw the avatars announced. After I learned they are only active during astral flow I wasen't too thrilled -.-

Well. They'll probably add still more at a later date. Some 2hr onlys, some permas. But keep in mind, the old ones are gonna get new moves too.

or so we hope lol...
they dont really have animation left for physical BPs if im not wrong. Only Fenrir has another howl/growl move and Diabolos has cacodemonia, i think. Then again they could be given Tier V or VI magic and that'll be that lol
edit: and of course they could just not be lazy and actually create new ones.

I was expecting the edit there lol. Plus, since BLMs get armor that inflicts Curse, I think it's fine to give us a BP that inflicts it. Plus Cacodemonia has an awesome graphic.

Following this logic means that what they did in the video was what we'll have to do in the game, and that they weren't using any special developer powers to force anything, such as Astral Flow being reset after release. So I suppose if we were to believe they weren't editing anything just to show off both avatars, we have the following facts:
- Astral flow used prior to summoning (as said will be possible in the March update)
- The target NPC placed in front of the summon was a non-aggro NPC*
- Perfect Defense/Zantetzuken used without bloodpact upon successful summon
- Zantetzuken, being an area of effect attack, needs no target, and was used immediately like Perfect Defense(?)
- Both avatars were dismissed almost immediately after use of their Astral Flow*
- Summoner was able to Astral Flow after releasing Alexander
- MP was not depleted while summoning, nor when both avatars used their AFs
*: Both of these point to the possibility of the developers trying to avoid a situation where the avatar attacks an aggressive monster.
MP was not loss during any situation here, as far as I can tell. It's certainly not impossible that they could of fixed the PC's MP, but it does confuse people if you start mixing the facts up, prior to its release.
On the other hand, if any of this, or a majority of this is controlled by the developers to 'give a good show', then we can't fairly judge what's going to happen, such as how long the avatars will stay out, if they can or can't attack, or if they require MP. They could of simply set all of this up to show off four things: Alexander, and Alexander's Perfect Defense, and Odin, and Oden's Zantetzuken. If that's so, they probably didn't want the avatars doing anything unnecessary, such as attacking, draining MP from AF, etc.

They just showed the avatars and their Astral Flow abilities, nothing more. They didn't really go into details about any of the jobs (even PUP... they just said skill is going from C to A and that attachments/def. will be fixed/changed) so we just need to wait and see.

Guys, seriously, are you whining about levelcapping at 99?
Do you realize what SE is doing?
They're preparing the game for when it inevitably loses much of its population. Assuming they don't add new Lv99 cap HNMs, we will be able to do most old content with a party of 2-5. (Tiamat, Nidhogg, Cerberus come to mind)

They're clearly going to add new HNMs for the new level 99 cap and any content from here on out that is added is going to be based on this cap. A lot of people are irriated about the raising of the level cap but honestly, with FFXIV coming out this was the best thing that could happen to this game. If they can implement it right they might be able to increase the longevity of the game. Personally I think they should have done this like a year ago or so.

I agree, this should of been done a year ago when FFXIV was barely mentioned. But then again, SE said they want to make FFXI and FFXIV completely different experiences.
Way to go by the way summoners, I didn't think you would get Alexander and Odin, but shows how much I know. Also, don't bitch about them only being in AF, when undoubtfuly your other avatars are going to probably get more abilities and power.

update is on the 23rd.
They do say explicitly in the video that the attacks are autofired, so you basically have no choice of when they use it, as long as you have summoned them.
As for the Release thing, you can see (or hear) the JA release being used (that chime and the green glow on summoner's hands).. so they need to be manually dismissed, or at least thats whats being shown in the video.
The Astral Flow thing and the MP thing is likely developer hax mode tho.
