An announcement was made today at VanaFest 2010 for "Abyssea," an all-new three-part series of battle-oriented add-ons.

A parallel world existing beside Vana'diel, Abyssea is a land fraught with perils and home to savage hordes of heretofore unseen creatures. Ferocious, towering NMs, new-look HNMs?even the garden varieties will confound would-be challengers with their unfamiliar and formidable powers. These and a whole host more await hapless adventurers with open arms and voracious maws.

In Abyssea, concerns such as the over-population of battle areas and the need for large time investments will be a thing of the past. The development team is hard at work creating a world where parties can engage in rewarding battles with powerful foes and collect prized equipment with the least of fuss.

Sounds like they're gonna be instancing it. Will they have horrible time restrictions like MMM? We shall see.

Hey, perfect for people with low playtimes. So I'm not complaining.

This looks interesting, I might have to look up on this when the content is released.

It looks like all three of these add-ons are connected to each other, and with the level cap being raised in intervals, I'm guessing the completion of each expansion pack is the equivalent to a limit break. 75 to 83, 83 to 91, then 91 to 99? Dunno. But I'm guessing that, along with the expansions completion, you'll gain access to the new end game area Walk of Echoes [S] in the past (giving wotg their end game scene) and the addition of the new AF3 pieces which you can collect, on top of the Shadow Lords gear.

Which, judging by the looks of it...

Looks like it will be lvl 99 gear and be absolutely freaking awesome.

The last two updates might have blown hard, but it looks like they're really making up for it in the next few updates.

Has anyone stopped to think that maybe some of these subjob abilites and spells might now adjust to the cap? For example a WHM99/RDM49 should have Refresh, but what if SE alters it so its a main job spell only. An example of this would be MAIN/DRG at any level considering that /DRG cant call a wyvern. That goes for all the spells and abilities as well. If it is the case that they DONT make some of the spells and abilities main job only then they better give me shit like Refreshga and Refresh II/Haste II to make up for the overpowered SCHs I'll see running around.

Gotta love the value for money on these.

Previously: 27$s for 3 pieces of gear, a shitty cape and 3 storieshorseshit.
Now: 27$s for at least 100 pieces of gear (even if you only want 1 set of AFv3, 5 > 3), new events and zones.

So glad I never brought more than ACP. More so now that the gear will become crap because apparently after wearing ~lv30 gear to lv70 I'm expecting lv75 gear to become complete shit the moment I hit 76.
I should just quit now rather than face the prospect of re-leveling and re-gearing. FFXIV will be much better, I'd get to start from complete scratch and not know even basic game mechanics.

That's why the announced new level caps completely separately from the new addons.

Ok here's the thing when I see level cap being changed to 99 or w.e one thing mainly comes to mind, relics. The greatest weapons in the game to an extent. I start to think about all those people who worked for years to get them and the weapons being lvl 75 how shitty are they going to be at lvl 99?

Since they're letting you put delay/damage/whatever augments on them I don't really think it matters.
People who worked for years on relics are jokes anyway. They can easily take several months if you know what you're doing.

They're definitely implying that you won't necessarily get all the sub-abilities from 37-49 that you would ordinarily. Refresh is an interesting question, but one of the screencaps definitely showed a WHM using Convert. Maybe they'll maintain job abilities for subs, but not necessarily spells?

The first thing I thought of when I heard about the cap was the gear also. Weapons (relic), but armor as well. People have spent SO much time farming these random point systems and collecting crazy coins to get their top gear.... now you intend to make that mid-level stuff? lol. I'm all for adding more content to the game, but please do it tastefully. Maybe leveling post-75 will be handled differently. Maybe there won't be any new gear between 75 and 99... Maybe that line of quests that they announced will allow you to upgrade your 75 gear all the way to 99? We'll see.

they already said gear can be augmented, even rare/ex gear and relics can be augmented. old gear/weapons will not be made obsolite or become mid-level gear.

And it's not like they can introduce any other gear that will top what we already have so much that it would end up being game breaking either. A lot of the gear most of us use at 75 is pretty well suited for any situation already.

I'm still going with a wait and see. Since I doubt all armor will be augmentable with that quest. As much as I'd love to put Accuracy/Attack on my Joyeuse I somehow doubt they'll make that an item for that upcomming quest.
