I believe the thought in this is to prepare for the loss of people who will no longer play this game after the release of 14 and for whatever other reason ppl decide to leave. The events that now take a full alliance will be done with parties of 6 or less now. Allowing ppl to still be able to get the gear they want. It's designed for the people who intend to stay. I don't really think a whole new world with all new mobs and all new gear is going to be the concentration. Yes, there will be updates for the levels. But It would appear that Augments will be the thing of the future, not new gear.

Yeah I haven't played Final Fantasy in over 2 years now! I jumped to wow and only played that for about a year and jumped to Aion been content every since! When i was playing FFXI I belive me and lots of others were wanting a lvl cap raise for the longest time and SE just flat out said no not gonna do it! while wow passed us up and intruduced new expantion and content new areas etc! While SE just kept on getting Stictor and strictor! I was like screw this! Hell when i was making gil the next day SE would take that away and we would have to find another way to make gil! I was like damn how the hell are we gonna start paying for Dynamis... My option To Little to Late! theres Lots of other MMOs out there ans most of them are Free!

Call me crazy...but doesn't the MP thing only affect against NMs?

Read:

Avatar: Odin
Uses “Zantetsuken” to vanquish all foes within the area of effect in one fell strike.
- When used against NMs, will instead deal damage.
- Amount of damage dealt and accuracy will vary with the summoner’s remaining MP.
- More monsters within the area of effect will reduce accuracy.

Seems to me they are implying that the damage/accuracy bit with MP only is affected if a NM is in the equation.

Or could be the normal FFXI translation team giving us peach of mind again.

Accuracy > normal monsters, damage>NMs. Zantetsuken won't deal damage to normal enemies so instead of getting a damage boost it gets an accuracy boost.

There's two ways I can see this. The first being that you are correct in your assumption. Initially, the skill reminds me of how the Odin Materia worked in FFVII. When Odin used Steel Bladed Sword, it would one-shot all monsters currently engaged, except for bosses. Since they don't want this skill to be entirely obsolete against NMs, they still give it the opportunity to at least deal damage.

My other way of seeing this is that the skill function's like the other Astral Flow pacts in which it fully depletes your mp. If we find this to be true (almost certain it will be), and with the 2nd listed stipulation in play, it may be SE's way of preventing Zantetsuken from being used at its full potential in repetition throughout the 3 minutes. This may be another way for SE to prevent the skill from being abused (ex. high level aoe astral burn parties with pulls in smaller groups). With this, it may also be that the 100% damage dealt to mobs is only in effect if your MP is over a certain percentage. Any mp that remains below said percentage would then start to affect the potency of Zantetsuken's accuracy and damage. The number of mobs in range is then factored in with the current accuracy rating from the remaining mp.

As much as I would prefer the first to be the case, the second seems more likely to fall under SE's methods.

[Edit] Rewording.
