i know im the random person in here, but doesn't guard simply mitigate damage like shield? which has nothing to do with accuracy and would probably be associated to same modifier : AGI?

i'm just asking for the sake of asking.

Yeah, it's likely associated with AGI.

Guard still kinda sucks though. No casting interruption rate bonus, which is really all I'd like to see from it. It's likely because we don't have a native spell of any sort (besides us being practically born as /NIN these days), but I still want it. =(

Guard is in all likelihood tied to AGI, yes. I doubt highly that it is tied to Accuracy or, if it is, it's so nominal a tie as to be moot. It took years to notice that Counter was tied to Accuracy, but we had inklings practically from launch as I recall some of the oldest research was done ages ago over at a defunct forum (FFXI Online or something like that?).

As for what Guard does, it doesn't act like Shield much at all. Shield is a straight damage reduction. Guard is an anti-critical. Rather than simply reducing damage by, say, 50 points or 10% or what have you, it reduces pDIF by 1.0. In a simple sense, they're rather similar, but the mechanics are a bit different. Also, one is really good. Hell, Shields have done well by me on friggin' Bard. Guard, on the other hand? I think it has saved me a little damage on an occasional TP attack, which are practically the only times I notice the damage reduction without watching for the Guard animation.

As a person who often messes around with Nidhogg and Faf by showing up as PLD/RDM, I can say that blood tanking isn't such a big deal in most situations. The only HNM I actually get raped by is Tiamat on the ground, and there are some PLDs that are capable of blood tanking even that

You speak like blood tanking tiamat is hard? i've seen it done by war/whm even... sorry but if that's how it was being done when tiamat first came out it's clearly not hard.... unless your ls is going off to blood tank tiamats with low healing setups or no AA order or even no random AA's that is... which is just lol... blood tanking isn't about difficulty of tanking it, it's about difficulty of creating the right tank party setup.

any situation you'd be low on attack, the mix/match wins does it not?
also, you can throw together a dex bulid with mix/match that is actually very nice when you work it right

You shouldn't ever be THAT low on attack though, between Dia II/III, food, chaos roll. And while it is a probability thing w/ the randomness of number of attacks, full usu will definitely see an overall increased ws frequency over time w/ the 13 stp. As for the dex build, hard to make a feasible one even for colibri yet alone any mob worth a fuck.

What other merit camp do people go to where mobs are relatively consistent? DEX build is a puddle of shit when fighting something like a Mamool Ja Lurker or Infiltrator because Thieves and Ninjas have outrageous AGI. Reliability against the mixed mobs there is questionable at best.

But, really, as usual, you're coming across like a troll trying to be just clever enough to seem like he's contributing. A very thin justification can be made for Hachiryu Haramaki, but it's pretty narrow even with how helpful Critical Hit Rate is for Monk. The mind-boggling rarity of it makes its mention in a conversation about as meaningful as Mars's Ring or Ninurta's Sash (obviously the latter does not apply to Monk). I wouldn't be surprised to know there are more Ninurta's Sashes floating around than Hachiryu Haramaki, actually. Simple truth is that Usukane is presently the top armor for Monk during TP phase in any meaningful situation, full stop.

This can be said for THF and NIN mobs, but really how often do we come across these? Somewhere like limbus, dynamis, einherjar or even most of salvage (barring chariots and maybe some others) a dex build should be just as effective as it is in merits (aside from thf and nin mamools :P). And really, the only reason I originally tested out this dex build for mnk was to mock one of my friends who has a dex bulid for everything (hi fg) but as it turned out, it was actually really potent. Obviously it needs some higher end gear, but you don't have to sacrifice any haste for it which is why it truly shines. Path you can say I'm trolling or whatever, but you can't really judge it until you've gone and tested it out for yourself.

LIke i said, any mob worth a fuck. Most things have a lot more dex than colibri. Sure, you can always find some situational use, full usu won't be best EVERY TIME, but generally speaking, let's try a dex build for mamools for example, for any sky or sea NM, for an HNM, ect, not going to happen.

Only mamool you'd have a dance at a decent dex build is stabler, and even then you'd need 119 dex to cap crit. So show me some theoretical builds for the other mamools.
