On the VanaFest website it says this about the update concerning bsts:
"New synergy recipes for the creation of consumable items required to perform the ability will be with a higher rate of yield for HQ items. "
Does this mean new recipes for old jugs? Or new recipes for new jugs? >.>

what does this mean?

Ok..so I've already kind of answered my own question. I read on in the vanafest twitter page and saw that there will be new jug pets, more charmeable mobs, and a possibility of snarl working on charmed mobs as well as jug pets. This is huge!!! What do people hope for the most as far as jug pets go? What are some possibilities that people see with more charmeable pets? I'm hoping for peistes..that would be awesome.

First SE will need to place more charmable mobs in areas where end game activities are held, I.E. Limbus, Dynmais, Einhinjar, Sea, and the new stuff. And if they do do that, then MAYBE Bst will be useful in end game. But the worst thing about that is then a bunch of Bsts would be able to lowman everything because instead of having to sleep adds, we could just use them against each other, with no danger to ourselves, which SE won't allow because it would be OP.
On the plus side, snarl working on charmed pets would open up Bst/War to exp a hell of a lot more, and maybe even lead to Bst tanking, with the proper support (Trick attack).

Worst thing?
It would be awesome, you mean?
I don't think bst could lowman everything, skilled bst could.

What about the new jug pets? Do you guys think SE will really give us that? Which jug pets do you think they'll include? Which do you want them to include??

I'd say Coeurls and Opo-Opo or Raptors.
These are the ones that have already been digged up through mysterious .dats years ago.
But if they wanna give us Hyppogryph and Slugs, I won't say no!
All I want is easy recipes with no rare or expansives ingredients.
I mean, for a BST, jugs should be like Shihei for every melee: affordable and available in huge quantities.

Not having to get an Philosopher's Stone for a Homonculus? (affordable/available mnk pet, hell yes!)
-Flowerpot bill/ben was kinda pricy to make with all those npc-bought elm logs yielding 2/1 per synth.
And there's still no word on raising the cap on nq jug pets so we could make use of that monster-correlation chart.
-we still don't have an amorph, would be great for fighting birds.
-maybe give the HQ jugs a subjob-esq stat increase so they're still preferred over NQ

They could solve the price problem in one easy step by making jugs be based on a 99 stack as opposed to a 12 stack.

As far as new jug pets are concerned, I've always wanted to summon a slime pet, innate PDT would make it a nice tank. I'm not really concerned too much about new charmable pets.

I don't see how placing charmable pets in endgame areas would result in a ticket to endgame activities; especially if you have to run around to find them or suffer a string of mischarms mid-battle. I suppose an all BST linkshell could try and put charmable pets to some use in the activities above, but there are further complications such as whether or not pets alone would be enough to defeat a foe in a certain time limit, keeping enough pets alive at any point in time, and dealing with monsters which are immune to physical damage.

Personally, I don't quite understand why they've labeled new jug pet recipes as a BST update; it feels more like a crafting update, and I've always been able to keep a stock of HQ jug pets in my arsenal. The real problem seems to be finding a good place to use them: most endgame players still chastise BST melee; so I'm hoping that this new update allows everyone to use cactaurs and/or a BST/jug pet damage boost is coming real soon....

If mobs were charmable in Einhinjar, or Limbus, you couldn't see a Bst being useful? It's more crowd control, plus you're effectively adding more DD which would cut down the time needed to kill everything.
edit: oh and from reading Elmer's post fest wrap up, the giant crab may be a new jug for bsts, which would rock.

When you said 'place charmable mobs in those areas', I was assuming you wanted new, DC-EM mobs in addition to what was available, not the ability to charm existing ITG ones. If BST could charm mobs in those areas, then yes, we might become a viable crowd control job. However, do you really expect SE to let us charm ridiculously strong mobs for more than a few seconds, and would it be worth the hassle to keep it under control? I suppose we could familiar to have a solid 30 minutes, however, that seems to be a short time for most events and a change and/or addition to the current BST mechanics would be necessary to make it more practical.

beastmaster... low man.
teehee. our entire structure is implementing a bad linkshell in a good way.
throw more tanks at it.

You know we wouldn't even need jug pets if SE just created endgame areas with charmable mobs around. Also, this update kind of pisses me off. I mean if giving us more jug pet options is all SE has planned for BST.. Well that..sucks.. It is already the least sought after job as is.

I am quickly checking through some of the synergy recipes to see if there is much difference in caps.
The one that catches the most interest for me is Antica Broth which caps in cooking are as follows :
Cooking (67)
Yield: Antica Broth x4
HQ 1: Fragrant Antica Broth x2
HQ 2: Fragrant Antica Broth x4
HQ 3: Fragrant Antica Broth x8
Water Crystal
* 2 x Antican Acid
* 1 x Antican Pauldron
* 1 x Antican Robe
* 1 x Gelatin
Cooking (87)
Yield: Antica Broth x4
HQ 1: Fragrant Antica Broth x2
HQ 2: Fragrant Antica Broth x4
HQ 3: Fragrant Antica Broth x6
Water Crystal
* 2 x Antican Acid
* 2 x Antican Robe
* 1 x Gelatin
As we're talking about non-stackable items here, you would want to craft them on the spot right?
I can spot a few problems with this because the cap is lower for synergy with it being listed as an apprentice rank (lvl 40-50 skill cap) which does mean you can have a better chance at HQ. however..
You cannot currantly summon your portafurnace inside dungeons, towns or generally no farming inside quicksand caves for this stuff.
You would have to try to farm them outside like east/west altep instead ><
Also it might cost a little more to craft if you wish to stack up on fewell to feed your portable furnace anyway.
If you were in town, you might be tempted to use the NPC to stock up on fewell but this is expensive!
On the plus side, you will never lose any synth items when you attempt to craft these but the chances of you gaining a HQ will probably depend if you can get the elemental ballance within the furnace just right.
(Even then your not always guarunteed on getting the "smooth synergizing!" text after your product is completed.)
The only thing you will spend your gil is on fewell! (Most likely water fewell.)
My currant synergy skill is level 44 so I can make these now but I will most likely attempt to take to level 60 cap using gold leaf or something.
In any case I will be playing around with the new recipes pretty soon.

With our luck, that'd be the price to npc them rather than finding an npc that can sell those to us.

That's excatly what it is. I guess SE's reasoning for this is if the NPC price is too low, more people will put them up on the AH other than NPCing them. My bet is on nobody even bothering to craft these anymore.

Simpler recipes would have been nicer...
Another good thing would have be (and I hope they'll do that for the new jugs) two separated recipes for "normal" and "hq" jugs.
ex:
Coeul Jug: (lv 27-55)
-crystal water x1
-Hare meat x1
Johnny Panther: (lv55-75)
-crystal water x1
-Dhalmel meat x1
When you miss your HQ recipe, none you can't use them (even capped in merit most of the NQ jugs are useless @75), nor sell them since low-level bst tend to be rare. If selling them to NPC results a ridiculous loss... crafters won't maybe take the risk.
Anyway, I hope, if we have new jugs a day, that they'll be available through merchants, and not "crafted only!". We bst wouldn't be economic hostages anymore.
