Trial of the Magians is a set of quests for Level 75 characters that allow them to improve their existing weapons, armor and skills. Players choose an area they wish to improve and must complete a corresponding quest to obtain their selected enhancement. The five categories shown at VanaFest were

- Weapons

- Armor

- "Livelihood Skills" i.e. Crafting Skills

- "Adventuring Skills" i.e. Player Stats

- "3rd set of strongest weapons" i.e. enhancing Relics and Mythics into a new set of ultimate weapons.

So far, the Weapons line of quests has been highlighted and looks to be added in the March update. Here are the official details:

A single weapon can undergo numerous upgrades. By trading an already-enhanced weapon to a Magian Moogle, players can undertake successive quests to have it further improved. Multiple quests can be undertaken simultaneously.

By repeating the quests, up to 80 different features can be added to a single weapon. With figures such as Damage and Delay added to the equation, there exist 500 possible attribute patterns for a single quest branch!


If we are allowed to actually upgrade our relics as to adding upgrades like the other weapons will be allowed to do. What would you choose and why. Or do you think the quests will actually just make them +1 with all new stat lines?

I know if we are allowed, my delay is going way down, damage is going up, maybe WS damage up, or some double attack onto it.

Basically what you said.

Base damage up, /ws damage up, delay down and double/triple attack if possible..... Who knows perhaps we will be able to alter our AM or drain effect.

I wish SE would put Cata AM's haste in a category of its own that could break the 80 cap... but I don't see that happening.

With getting Apoc +1 question is will it already get a better and increased WS? Cause with everything else being added to other gear (probably including haste), we would need more. This is where SE should allow us to WS for 5k and be true of a RELIC weapon.

Does the 3rd most powerful weapon ingame part in the quote mean (relics/Mythics standard) will be right behind the new upgraded relics/mythics.

I'm still suprised we can add 80 stats to the weapons.. including relic
anything outside these new expansions will be laughably weak now..
also adding a new set of weapons that outstripes relics entirely would be VERY shitty of SE..

Well maybe the new set of weapons will only outshine the non-upgraded relics I'm sure a fully upgraded one will still be the best choice.
Even if they did bring something in that outshines a relic even if I was a relic owner I would see this as something new and exciting to do in game because I'm sure those that have every possible piece of top tier gear are starting to get tired of the same old shit. Even though I couldn't say from experience because I have very few pieces of top tier gear.

Up to 80 tries/attempts maybe? till you get an augment(or more?) that you want...(must repeat quests again and again...could probably get bad augments too? get the pattern? sounds like SE)


Is it just me, or 80 different stats/augments on one piece of gear sound a bit ridiculous?

Probably more than one stat/augment.... but how the hell would you fit in 80 in there? but who knows...

Still early to know how SE is going to do this, all we can do at the moment is speculate.

I doubt it means we can have a weapon with 80 different augments on it. probably means there 80 different augments to choose from or w/e. I also highly doubt SE will ruin relics by brining out weapons easier to get then relics.

it's probably like "80 stat points"
and adding haste = 10 points
adding dmg = 5points etc

I am going to side on saying that there are 80 different options that we can upgrade... the number of upgrades we can actually attach at the same time probably is what remains unknown.

And yes to the above... when looking at parses my total melee damage far outweighs my total /ws damage... let me break 1500 consistantly without souleater or relying on a DA proc on Apoc and I will be more than happy.

The only way that I actually see SE taking away apoc's advantage is by allowing other jobs to hit the gear haste cap without cata AM.... because lets face it, that is one of the biggest reasons we can rape so much face.

Thats why I said I would like to see Cata AM haste be put in a category of its own that can go beyond the 80% cap

Then you don't have to use AF+1 head for SEWS.

Other than that, more base D, more acc, attack. Personally I wouldn't lower the delay so you don't screw your 6hit (unless you can get some good sTP gear at 99).

Not really sure what I'd want for Apoc, ofcourse damage to compensate for the higher lvls but other then that some att or dex would be nice.

What makes this a real bitch is the fukken idiots who comes up and steal your crabs after you pull them. I had 2 crabs at 5% each, building TP on a 90% crab to subtarget the low HP ones with WS, when this freaking idiot comes up and oneshots my crabs. yellow is fair game, but jesus, I don't come up to people doing that. Leave me alone with my mobs -.-

I 2box RDM PL uses, protect, shell, phalanx2 5/5 and haste. As seen in screenshot.

40KS and 35BS so far, no signet so my inv don't fill up with crystals. I end up tossing alot of crabs shells which are 350g each at npc. HQ crabs shells are 3k. stack of crab meat about 3k.

Killed 2 Guivire, 5 amemet and 7 coffers opened.

you killed guivire twice? with just drk/sam (I'm guessing) and rdm? Forgive me but I haven't fought him in ages but I remember him hitting my lvl 70 pld like a mack truck (though this was back in 04... lol seriously last time i fought that guivre)
