I don't know, maybe I'm outdated on information but what's the deal with our character names in FFXIV. So we like...get our first name and last name or do we just get to add a letter or number next to our names?

SE said something about ppl from FFXI keeping their names for FFXIV or giving them something special so they don't feel out of place? What's up with that? Anyone?

no clue on that yet but they said they were gonna see if they could have ppl transfer their names from XI to XIV but no word on it yet and i seen one picture where someone had a X after their name so im not entirely sure whats going on with it but id like to know as well

Well they did said that if you played FFXI or had an active account or something like that you would get priority to that name, or so I understood.

It wouldn't be fair to keep the alpha/beta names, not everyone gets the chance to be there so SE better let it be first come first serve in matters of name choosing. Either way if you're a FFXI player you're safe lol ^^

Would be nice if more MMOs started doing what Cryptic does (probably the only good thing Cryptic has done aside from character creation). That being giving everyone a handle that is used in junction with your avatar name. That way people can have any name they want and it is still considered unique due to their handle. Great for Roleplayers and anyone whom doesn't want to resort to adding wierd characters to their desired name.

I thought it was a good method the one that used in FFXI if you claimed it first then it's yours period, but what I'm curious of is wtf is up with the extra letter or whatever it has next to the name. I believe I saw in a video that you can also add numbers too but that's not very relevant to me. lol I dunno I think it's a good touch to the character customization but if it's just one digit then it's just plain silly.

I hate how SE hides all that shit is not like it's gonna cause such a great impact if they reveal tiny stuff like that I think they're full of themselves lol. I love their games though > .>

I think what they should do is full names, it is highly unlikely your name will be taken unless you are naming yourself in reference to a famous character (ex. Cloud Strife). That could help people get the name they want.

And to make it easier for people, have your full name, then have a nickname for yourself, like Shin Megami Tensei: Nocturne.

That actually sounds like a good idea there. I totally agree with that maybe it wouldn't show the whole name but the first one, but like when ppl examine you it'll show first name, second name, last name, then nickname if you will though doesn't your title goes under the category of nick names lol sort of? Anyway, I'm just sick and tired of stupid ppl naming themselves "Gandolfthebitch" it sounds stupid just to have the first letter be the only capital letter on most of the names ppl choose, and I mean when they use the word "the" on their name or words like that, or even worse Xxxyourmomxxxx lol wtf I'd think that's a gilseller if I didn't look closely.

The problem is that ppl don't have imagination and can't be original by themselves. I agree you could use some references from other games like for your macros or whatever but not for your stupid name wtf. If i had a dollar for every dumb ass with a stolen name I'd be rich. I agree that they should filter AT LEAST Final Fantasy names so ppl can't use them.

Anyways, ppl aren't the problem SE is! They should give us a list for all the names that are taken depending on the first 4 letters of what you type. Like Dark something, there are a shit load of names that start with Dark then again ppl combine their great imagination with adjectives like Dark.....Darksephiroth, Darksquall, Darkyourmom come on....

yea its just like you said ppl have no imagination and prefer to use the name of someone who was in a previous FF game but this is a game where your supposed to be yourself or someone completely out of the ordinary who isnt you at all, Not meant to emulate someone from previous games especially if your not gonna be anything close to what they were ya know.

Like if someone has the name cloud ok fine thats ok maybe they didnt even do it cause of VII maybe they like clouds and if its taken then for the ppl trying to get the name dont do xxcloud cause you wanna be the actual cloud form the game be original use your head to come up with something it aint that hard.

Pshhhhhhhhhhhhhh I KNOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I mean lol yeah my name is Vangoh......kinda like the artist but not many know wtf is Vangogh (notice that my in-game name is Vangoh with the missing G before the H 'cause I wanted to be slightly original). THIS is why I want SE to give us last names, and even nicknames like the guy above me said it would help the ppl without imagination to be more original. I've always thought it was really cool how some NM had awesome names, like the all the beastmen ones had cool names well maybe SE would let us make up our names like that of course I still say that we would only see our first name above our characters, when you get examined or maybe in the story line they'd say your whole name? I think that's a nice touch.
