So does anyone have any thoughts on how will the population will be distributed? Maybe they'll use the traditional server concept and have us choose where we want to start?
It may sound like a stupid and obvious question but who knows. Some of us are thinking "Well I want to know where I want to go so I can land on the same server as my old friends," since SE confirmed they weren't going to use Play Online as the lobby of FFXIV so we won't be able to communicate with our FFXI friends (unless you have their email, phone, or just go back to POL every time you wanna talk to them) which leads me to my next point.

Will SE create another POL? I can't think of many game lobby ideas at the moment but that has been crossing in my mind lately, but it just seems like their only option.

They will let you pick servers and it will have the same setup as WoW, go straight to the login without having to go through any PlayOnline like bullshit a long the way. More than likely, for an outside way of communicating they will use a forum website.

Really? That's gay...I was hoping for a fancy version of POL, I just love the idea of having a profile for the game, unless they add that on your character card..like when ppl examine you.

BTW you got any sources for that?

I thought I read somewhere that SE will actually make something like POL for PS3 users. Also for 360 users later on release.

I am speaking on behalf of PC, which is using the Square Enix ID system to log in now. Which is much better, screw having to go through things like PlayOnline to get into a game.

The thing about POL is they screwed it up for the NA version. In Japan there were a lot more games that made use of it and you could select them all from the menu. I think there was an Armored Core for POL and a few others. But it was intended to make for easy access to switch between games and have friends and stuff. In other words... It was a proto-type XBL and PSN.

They are simply retarded.

They fucked up the payment ways aswell really damn bad. So bad that after 4 days, I still cant update my CC information so pay my overdue fee's and be able to play again.

Hell, back when I came out of retirment for a month they wouldn't accept my credit card so I had to convince my parents to let me use theirs again for it due to that 3D secure crap.

Well they're just stupid, I hope they come up with new ideas on payment information and security so ppl don't get their account hacked. I thought the security token was sort of a good idea but omg is the most annoying shit ever when you're logging in, and if the batteries run out you gotta spend another 10 bucks for a new one which is bull shit. I DUNNO it's their job to figure that out I guess they could add a reset feature and every time you rest it you get an email with the new info still RMT are pretty clever so I'm not sure what would work in security matters.

You can still use unsecure cards via PS2, PS3 and 360. But it is still a hassle.
Which reminds me I have to change my card info on my sisters account.

Don't lknow what all the fuss was about playonline. I liked using it when I was first new, after a while it just became an obstacle. If they actually added SOMETHING to POL for NA players I think it would have had more use.

If it had more potential it'd have been worthwhile. However since it failed flat on it's face it's just a pain in the ass to go through all that crap just to log on XI.

Indeed POL was an infant XL/PSN and was alright as a social network for its time, but it is now obsolete. For PCs those networks tend to cause more problems than they solve via extra loading and authenticating. I'd rather they go the way of Blizzard with Battle.net and the WoW launcher. Simple and quick to use to both access your game, and on Battle.net's end, take care of anything that needs attention such as a change of payment, redeeming a promotion code, or contacting support.

I'll miss the messaging and profile features of POL but they just aren't worth the pain.

5 days now and still cant update the fucking payment information. Tried to do it on Xbox 360 but I dont have the discs anymore.

The guy from SE said that I should try it on 360 or ps2, that there is a higher chance of it getting processed than on PC but since I got none. I'm fucked for life.

Yeah well maybe the new POL should be more of a social thing, for profiles, friend list editing, status updates (would be awesome to link it to facebook ^^), chat. I'm not sure what did I left out but the payment info and all that legal stuff should be managed from a different site, maybe on a website or something. As for the security measures I'm not sure, that's a tough one and it's hard to keep ppl happy without screwing them over a little. Passwords are just too easy to hack, hmm. I'd suggest maybe a feature to lock your account through your cellphone and unlock it the same way, to be able to control your account from outside the new POL. And then there's the young teenagers who don't even have cellphones and all that shit. FUX! I DON'T KNOW! LOL but I'd cry if my account got hacked after so much progress.
