Alright so I've been playing FFXI for about 7 years on a Logitech Rumblepad (Various series of the controller) and its always worked for me. Tonight I decided to resub my FFXI subscription and I get everything good to go. I open my FFXI config, enable my gamepad, set the keys the way I like, and then I go to test it and... Nothing happens.
Odd, so I take my wireless Logitech and try it as well and... Once again nothing happens.
I check my Game Controller settings within my control panel to make sure it works. It's properly calibrated and works perfectly fine. I tried it on other games and both of them work. So why does my controller not work on FFXI?

And you've DEFINITELY checked the box to enable the controller in FFXIconfig and saved it? Because otherwise, I got nothing.

Okay I solved the issue, the problem was a lil' more complex than I had expected.
For future reference to anyone that may have this problem, check Control Panel -> Game Controllers
You'll probably see your controller under the listings, but if you see an option above it called (HID) Human Interface Device, it's a program default setting that FFXI will attempt to establish as the primary controller. The function of this setting allows you to select another controller and use that as the default controller for older programs. Problem is, it doesn't seem to work so it's completely pointless. At this point you need to go into Control Panel -> Device Manager, drop down Human Interface Device and find the right one ((HID) Human Interface Device) and disable it. If it was the right one then the option will disappear from the game controllers stack within the game controllers drop down.
