It's a short read but basically these parents were so involved with their online game, that they forgot to feed their baby.

All-night gaming binges are harmless in moderation, but this week one married Korean couple discovered the awful consequences of letting virtual life overtake real responsibilities.

The pair -- who were hooked on an online game called "Prius," where they were raising a virtual daughter -- were arrested by Korean police this week and charged with failing to care for their three-month-old baby daughter, who died of malnutrition last September.

They admitted to feeding their child rotten powdered milk, frequently spanking her, and leaving her at home during marathon sessions at the "PC bang" gaming clubs that are a staple of Korean gamer culture.

"They called in last September to report that they found their daughter dead after coming back home in the morning," a Seoul police detective told ABC. "They had spent 12 hours, all night, at a PC bang."

It's not the first Korean death linked to gaming addiction, either: in 2005 a man collapsed and died after playing 50 straight hours Starcraft at a PC bang. Roughly one-half of Korea's population play online games, and almost all of them have access to high-speed internet connections. Korean lawmakers are considering legislation to curb excessive gaming.

Obviously if online video-games were not a factor they would both be outstanding parents.

Is there something about the "word" "Prius"? It seems anything with that name is determined to cause the extinction of any human life stupid enough to be tangentially related to it.

Knew it involved Koreans before I clicked the link. Maybe someone should invent a device that hangs on a crib and repeatedly intones "I require nutrients" in a Protoss-like voice every 4-5 hours to prevent this kind of stupid from happening again.

that already exists. every 4-5 hours (or less) a child will scream very loudly. it cant be described as to how annoying this sound is. it makes a normal person want to do something/anything to pacify the child. whether it be nutrients, comfort, or hygiene (diaper). As a father of 2 sons its hard for me to believe that people like this can get over-involved in something besides their child. Not only that, but women have innate instincts when it comes to caring for young children.

yes. but a crying child isnt a protoss voice saying "you require more vespene gas" so they ignore it...

and as far as others(non parents) from my experience, its not cuz i want to nuture the kid, its just cuz i want the little one to shut up without me getting arrested for causin any harm to it...or i just run away, like i did when we had a bag pipe player at my grandma's 90th, or when im around my cousin's kids who has a good set of pipes on her -.-;; HOW CAN SOMETHING SO SMALL BE SO LOUD!

I bet the prisons there have internet access where those two will continue to raise their virtual daughter.

Here's the deal though. They didn't hear the child screaming because they went to a gaming bar. People in Korea and Japan rarely play computer games at home (consoles they do.) Out of sight, out of mind yo. They were leaving it for 12 hours, then coming home. I'm shocked it made it 3 months doing that. But they're bad parents. There is nothing saying women all submit to motherly instinct. There's plenty of bad parents around here that neglect their kids for crack or meth.

who's to say they cared about the kid anyway? Coulda been a busted condom for all we know. I don't advocate this either way. Let's put them in a cage for 3 months without food or water see how well they handle it.

That is not fair. The baby was without food or water for only twelve hours. So parents should be without water for twelve hours as well. A toe for a toe.

Nothing is fair. They should suffer for as long as the child's span of life, being 3 months. You want to talk fair, a guy who murdered a couple over 20 years ago, stole their boat, repainted it and renamed it, after getting convicted only gets to serve a 20 year sentence, how is that fair?

It is better to forgive, live and forget than punishing them for a life time.
