I just got my account back and its asking me to update my credit card in order to reactivate my content ID.

The question is that, if I update the credit card, and reactivate the content ID, will SE charge me instantly or they wont until the 1st of the next month?

They wait till the end of the month. They just require your credit info so they know you wont be jipping them.

this is wrong, this is the post i was looking for.

they charge at the start of the month and instant. if you are deactivated on the 1st of the month like say you activated march second, you will be double charged in April on that first.

I just spoke to them with this issue wondering why my bill was so high for April, this is how it works

From here: http://killingifrit....ed-jan-20-2010/

"Q: When am I billed?

You are billed the first of every month.

Unpaid fees are carried over on each month after the first unpaid months. For example, if you didn't pay for Month 2 and 3, those unpaid fees are carried over to Month 4. You will then pay 3 times the amount for that month.

Reactivating a PlayOnline ID, purchasing an expansion, transferring a character or characters, or buying a security token and so on during the middle or end of the month, you will be billed on the following month on the first. There are no such thing as late fees or even partial monthly payments; you are still billed for one entire month."

I'm thinking about coming back, but I don't want the $27 dollar charge out of nowhere.
The part I don't get is if they charge the previous month, or the month that is beginning on the 1st?

According to my service history, I cancelled on august 10 of last year,

If I reactivate:
Does that mean I will be charged for the month of august(of last year) AND this month?

No, you'll be charged for the month you activate on as well as the month following because you actually pay for each month in advance of playing. Which is the reason that when you cancel your ID's you can still play on those characters until the end of the month that you cancelled.

say you activated it today may 30th , on June frst or second or w/e you be charged 24 dollars or so because they charge you for those 2 months.

in other words if you don't want to be ripped off always reactive at start of a month.

I'll try to explain it better with an example:

Sara Werec played since 2006 and deactivated in 2008 because of work.

With the economy and work winding down, she has a lot of spare time. Therefore, she decides to reactivate her PlayOnline account and Final Fantasy character on June 14, 2010.

Square-Enix charges her card $1.00 to verify the card is valid and belongs to the account owner ONLY IF the card entered for payment is NEW. SE then places a charge-in-the-future for $12.95 for that reactivation, which will be charged the following month.

By July 1, 2010 at 24:00 PST/PDT (Midnight), they promptly charge her card that $12.95 for the month of June, even though she reactivated in the middle of the month. Square-Enix also charges a second amount of $12.95 for the month of July.

In total, Sara gets a debit total of $25.90. If she entered a new credit/debit card number to pay for the account, she'll be immediately charged the $1 for verifying the card on the day she reactivated her account-- June 14. So, essentially, $26.90 for two months are debited.

The $1 is the only time to my knowledge that SE will ever charge you immediately on the spot is when you use another card as payment for your account or a new card. Other than that, every payment is done immediately on the FIRST of each month at midnight Pacific time, and often times until 02:00 AM PST.

There are times when SE will charge you on the SECOND of the month at midnight PST is when there is maintenance on the registration servers. Thus, you may have 24 hours of playing time... for free, unless they fixed this. I know this from experience.

Now, if Sara had $8.50 in her account and SE is unable to debit that $25.90 on July 1, they try again on the second day of that same month. After 12 midnight of the second day, the account temporarily goes inactive. When August 1, 2010, midnight, if she has $100 in her account for example, Square-Enix will charge the account $25.90 for the unpaid months of June and July PLUS the month of August. In total, that comes to $38.85.

So, when you plan to reactivate an account; transfer a character; or add a new content ID/character in the middle of the month, always be sure that you have money in your account. The best method is to have at least two months worth of payment (including all your characters) budgeted towards paying your PlayOnline account(s).

Hope that clears things up.

So, anyway you do it, you will be charged 2 months on the next billing date. So if I reactivate tomorrow, I will be charged for two months on the first of JULY for both June AND July.

SE better have proration or a 30-day cycle for FF14, or I will not play. Other MMO's have it and it's lame to pay for time you don't play.

As a side note- SE's payment system is total shit. I am trying to reactivate but my they won't accept my card, even after the stupid $1 verification process. This is the same problem I have every time I try to re-activate and I only ever have problems with SE.
