They have a good description on what each job does and their abilities and weapon skills on eorzeapedia. Looks like I'm going with conjurer.....I was hoping for a white mage class but looks like conjurer does white and black magic. Then there is the thaumaturge mage which does more of a debuffing role casting enfeebling and since there is no word on the summoner class yet I opt for the support roles which there aren't any yet either lol so far I think conjurer is the closest support type being able to cast cure and protect to the party.

One important note is that Conjurer apparently can only learn spells of whatever element they specialize in. I'm hoping they can specialize in at least 2 -- assuming as much they'll be several different possible combinations, making that easily the most complex job.

Can you post a link on where you found the info about the conjurer specializing on an element? I'd like to check that up and check if you won't be a RDM wanna be without the enfeebling.

Apparently its somewhere in the Famitsu or one of those other Japanese mags that got interviews. A friend of mine was translating it and relaying me the stuff it said. Honestly, I can't confirm it, but with the direction SE is going it makes a lot of sense that they'd offset the relatively low number of mage jobs with high levels of specialization.

Sorry that I don't have a link, I'll ask her about it tonight.

It's cool np. Though that would be pretty cool, that way there would be like earth mage, thunder mage, wind mage, etc. I dunno or maybe your elemental magic is divided in skills so the more you use an element the stronger it gets?

Then ppl can be more original lol.

They will probably have staves with different elemental properties to switch between to help you in battle.

Now where have I seen this before? ....hmmm....

I know, it's got me really excited. Basically depend on how many specializations you could get there would be 6 different types of mage you could be, or even better 6 different fields you could work on for each Conjurer. Means every conjurer would have a spot for -something-.

I don't know. I'm probably going Maurader or Archer, I don't think I'll be hard up for a place to be. :P I like the limited number of jobs. No duplicates means less job against job competition. It's not quite as bad if you're just losing out to other people in your same job -- at least yo know eventually you'll a group for whatever event because your job has use in it.

Unlike certain events we saw in FFXI.... <cough><cough>PUPDRGDRK<cough><cough>

I'm going to break down and cry if they add more "situational" gear.

I hope they don't.... I really do...

Ugh, my kingdom to be able to just buckle down into a nice set of gear full-time...

- Can you give us anymore information on how the elements come into play in FFXIV?

Okada: In the world of FFXIV, there are 6 elements: Fire, Ice, Wind, Earth, Thunder and Water. They will all have their characteristics as well, such as Water being strong against Fire, but weak against Thunder.

Iwao: Both players and enemies will be affected by their affinity with the elements. Also, there exist forces aligned to these 6 elements called "Star Poles" and "Spirit Poles." They are like the magnetic poles of our Earth, attracting different energies.

[Elmer Point: The poles are called 星極 (sei-kyoku) and 霊極 (rei-kyoku). The first means Star Pole and second means Spirit Pole. As Iwao said, "pole" refers to a magnetic pole, such as the North and South poles of Earth. These sound like Protocrystals, in that they serve as focus points for the energy of a particular element. The official names will most likely be different, though.]

- What kind of effect will these elements have on the player?

Okada: Each player will have their own strengths and weaknesses regarding each element. For example, one person could be particularly strong against Fire.

- Is this decided upon during Character Creation?

Sato: No, this aspect of the player will improve along with other stats, like HP, as they grow. Depending on how you raise your character, you could be a specialist against a certain type of element.

Okada: If you are strong against Water, an enemy's water-based attacks won't hurt you so much.

Iwao: Two Conjuerers also could specialize in separate elements. One could excel at Ice magic and the other at Fire, thus serving two separate roles.

- This really heightens the individuality of players!

Iwao: One could even decide to improve all elemental resistances equally, which would make them somewhat effective against all elements at the expense of specializing in none.

- It would be funny to see cliques form between people who specialize in the same element.

Sato: Like an Association of Fire-based Players (laughs). That just might happen.

I think that's what you're looking for.

I guess that means raising your affinity to an element just makes your magic of that element stronger. The significance of this is the question. my friend was saying they're going to make it so you can raise your affinity to absorption levels, but I don't know.

Daaaaaaaaaaaaang, that sounds sweet, I love that idea and I love how you will be able to choose on what stats you wanna be strong too. I've always hated how summoner has low HP and defense. That's why in FFXI I never wear any gear that lowers HP and I still manage to break the 1k HP/MP as SMN Elvaan.

And OMFG! PHUCK NO to situational gear. If there was one thing I hated about FFXI it was that. I REFUSED to use situational gear on FFXI except for SMN's elemental staves, and other minimal stuff, as gimped as I was I'd only wear one set of gear for each job 'cause I hated looking like a dumb ass. The gear with the best stats made you look like a clown.....ie walmart turbant or O hat for example.

Oh and when you said absorption levels did you mean that you can get to the point that an elemental attack will heal you? (FF8 style) 'Cause that would be sick
