Remember when BST used to be the God's of the crawlers nest and B-tree? When monsters did not depop after using leave, when it was possible unleash havoc at a zone with humongous trains of monsters? I was just thinking today about how BST was always either being bitched out for MPK'ing people or being blessed for cleaning up a mess. Those were the most fun days of FFXI for me and I was hoping other old school players would share their stories about the tomfoolery they got into with BST back in the day.

Remember when.. (BST)

I remember once several times beastmasters have ruined an exp party because they could muscle in on exp camps and/or MPK us if they felt like it
not to say all BSTs were like that but I do not look back on those times with any fondness

I've seen people screw BSTs and i've seen BSTs screw other people. I remember one BST who used to butt-in on people's camps in B. Tree, killing their mobs. I ended up getting him back when I was running out of there and I saw him trying to solo Aquarius. He had him down to like 10% and was running so he could get another pet and it quickly went unclaimed, so I voked it and finished it off (Ninja) and got the drops. He demanded that I give him everything which I didn't.
I remember another time when a BST was waiting near Wyvernpoacher camp for him to pop. We were exping, he just stood by and Wyvernpoacher was the only mob he was after. He didn't bother us at all and he didn't fight us for Wyvernpoacher since noone needed his drop.
On topic, yes, I remember when BSTs owned those places. B. Tree was a BSTs playground. It was the change to releasing that caused me to stop leveling mine.

I remember doing this a few times, but only when provoked. There were a surprisingly high number of people that thought just because they were in a party that they should have exclusive rights to an exp camp and had no problem explaining this to me.
Releasing aggresive monsters on RMT was always fun too, or exploiting their healbots in various ways.

acknowledging that i am still bitching about mob depop, and remember the allakhazam thread that SE posted to inquire about it. everyone was like "nerf bst they're too dangerous" essentially, and i left this clever explanation of what they could do without changing the entire way beastmaster levels up.
of course it took a few years for some of those things to happen. and im still bitching about mob depop, even if ive found ways to make it work now.

I remember messing with a parties exp twice
the first time, i was young and stupid. and this person had wronged me in a way that i felt needed a bit of retribution.
the second time, i was kicked out of a party for saying "haha" or something, and to get back in i was asked to apologize and kiss feet. unfortunately, i dont roll that way. so i switched jobs and came back.
i got the standard response "too much time on your hands" and "i report yu", my replacement was like, i dont know whats going on.
they kept it up for an hour before they disbanded, and then i switched and... got another party right away. lets off some steam. but i have low moral fibre with dictators
well, there are some other nasty things i did...
letting some people die when i KNOW i could have done more...
killing some people while they run off and i dia their slept mob...
camping is pretty competetive
keep in mind this is within a 6 year period, so if i only do something horrible once every 3 years, i think im ok.

I only leveled BST after the adjustments to Leave, but I'll confess to fucking with a few impolite bastards' XP when they come traipsing into the camp I've occupied for the last hour and essentially tell me to GTFO, there's six of them and only one of me, therefore they were more deserving.
I have also been told that once when I repatriated via a FoV book, the crab I had charmed started beating on people at the outpost. Since it should not have been aggressive, I'm not sure what happened, but it still cracks me up that it happened. (was doing some level sync duoing with my brother, who was the one who informed me of the crab's unknown anger.)

After the few problems I had with other bsts I had with my subjobs and my main, my bst was courteous enough to camp outside the mainstream party camps. I mean c'mon. Why pigeonhole yourself in the same camp everyone else uses? Where's the adventure in that?
You want to park yourself in the middle of the road, you should've expected some angry people to come in behind you.

I usually would try to avoid regular exp camps altogether simply because asshats would do that "Six are more important than one" bullshit when I had already been exping there for an hour or two. The more obscure camps were more fun anyway. I enjoyed the feeling of being out in the middle of nowhere alone and leveling up. The only time I've ever MPK'd someone using BST was when gil-sellers were at Serket constantly killing my pets and exp mobs. They thought it would be funny to do so when I'm in the middle of swapping pets so I let the bomb chill next to them while I went looking. hi2u Self-Destruct.

yeah, self-destructing Gilsellers was my passtime at Serket and Cassie.
its too bad it doesnt work anymore, you just cant fight back now except by fighting fire with fire.
thats why I loved MPK, it added the third factor. everything is so restricted and vanilla nowadays. its like Square is afraid we might squabble amongst ourselves!

Ah yes... Reading this thread brings back so many memories. The days when I first got to Qufim parties cried about me killing "their" crabs until nightfall came and I was killing the undead then I got a thanks for grabbing that add... The week or so I spent in the back of CN grinding through that place all alone never seeing anyone but a few ppl there for the NM bee. All the Gil I made in B. Tree leveling and killing AQ countless times The days spent in Ifrit's Caldron mining, farming Haku eyes and sometimes soloing TT for the excitement. Then of course there was MPK'n RMT were ever I could find them. Of course it was always fun to solo xp off the undead toad in the back of Den of Rancor, it just felt good to own a place were other classes would rarely journey solo. I always enjoyed looking up a random NM and then hunting it down just to see if I could solo it. I miss these days so very much I really hope SE adds a BST variant extremely soon to FFXIV! Edit: I miss the days in Kuftal (I think that was it) MPK'n RMT with the cacti 1k needles.

One of my favorite memories of BST was when I was leveling back near the furnace in Garlaige killing bombs.
Just doing my thing in a nice secluded spot when some lone adventure runs by, just in time to get a face full of Self-Destruct, dropping dead right there. Nobody to raise him. No clue how much trouble he went through to get there. Didn't ask why he was even there. I just know that my simple presence inadvertently killed some guy.

Wut?
BST don't charm mobs any more? Aren't the charmed ones stronger than jug pets? I just came back and I'm doing it wrong? D:

from what i follow of the new times, BST jugs have become much, much better by design - most specifically the new Rabbit jug and the new Sheep jug

Since we can't charm mobs in the new (A) areas, they gave us a plethora of pets to compensate. Most popular being the Sheep and the Ladybug (for TH)

Mind, the new jugs are only for endgame. 1-75 jugs are still pretty crappy.

I remember when you could Charm Bubbly Bernie >.>
idk i just liked that.
And yes, I still think the job was 500x better before they patched Leave, and my ever hated anti-MPK patch.
After the anti-MPK patch, dealing with gil farmers started to get a lot harder.
