Get DDR5 for ur graphics card, is my suggestion, also AMD instead, because Nvidea runs better at 1st, but it runs so hot, and burns out too quickly, AMD will out live it.

thats my 2cents

frig, alpha specs apparently came up that you need service pack 3 for xp, i only have 2, so im gonna have to upgrade my os -.-;;

is 7 like vista, where you need a computer that's parts are actualy vista compatible to work?

if i can find out the actual parts(like fan and stuff, pretty sure its just a normal fan), what should i comprehensively upgrade to make it a good gaming pc for 14, and such

lol might have to bring it over to my buddy's house to get him to tell me -.-;;

so, with the information from the alpha spec thread, i realise im gonna have to basicaly build a new computer...what exactly should i do? its not really like i have much of a budget, i just dont want to spend a shitload of money (and by a shitload i mean like, 2k+, with os, since i'll apparently need windows 7 -.-;;)

renz you'll need to upgrade your cpu, it looks like you need at least a x2 to run 14 on a amd cpu

This is why i'm glad i'm getting it for PS3. Don't have to worry about upgrading a PC and playing on a large HDTV from the comfort of your livingroom is nice.

You are getting advice from some stupid people.

Radeon HD5850 will blow the doors off a Nvidia GTX. Not to mention that you can get a brand new Radon HD5950 for the price of the aging card you posted in the OP.

You can also get a i7-930 for $199 at MicroCenter this week. So there is no reason to spend $85 bucks more on a 920.

Caviar Blue are slow. Why not spend a little extra for the Caviar Black?

As for the board and and memory, most anything that will run you in Tripple Channel is going to be a modern enough board to suit your needs for this game. 6gig Tripple channel should be more than adequate.

Get a Prolimatech Megahalems for CPU cooling. Next best thing is arguably a Cooler Master V8.

Obviously a sata II dvd or blu-ray/dvd drive, and a nice big case with lots of room to work and plenty of high cfm fans.

Intel and ATI cards work great together. Anyone who says otherwise you need to ignore because they are gigantic douche idiots. Send them straight to overclock.net or HardOCP for a group slapping. I'm personally running a HD5850 on a 4Ghz OC'd i7-920 that bench marked 3DMark at 28,327. I'll gladly put this card up against any GTX285 garbage you want to run against it.

This is what I got for FFXIV

18,4" HD LED
i7 720qm turbo boost
4gb ddr3 1333MHz
2 x GTX 285M SLI
80GB SSD Win 7 Prox64 OS disk
320GB 72000 rpm storage disc
3rd hard drive not selcted yet. Waiting for SSD's to fall in price :)

It's a Sager\Multicom\Clevo X8100.. Its big and heavy ( 5,6kg ) but damn what a laptop.. Im so happy.. Costs but I got mobility, and I can sit in sofa playing <3 Since sitting 8 hours at office everyday is kinda too much office sitting..

Scoring P13452 in 3D mark Vantage :D So I know FFXIV will go smooth on this machine..

Don't think I'll be able to max it out, but I should still be able to run it pretty good.

CPU: Intel Q9450 quad core OC'd to 3.4Ghz
RAM: 8GB OCZ DDR2 800
GFX: 2 nVidia 8800GTS 512 in SLI
HDD: 300GB WD Velociraptor 10,00 RPM
MOBO: Evga 780i SLI
Case: Lian Li V1200B (Awesome case!)
Monitor: 24" Acer LCD (1900x1200)

7.5/7.9 rating in win 7

quick question: i noticed a lot of people aren't including dual gfx cards in their builds, is this for budgetary reasons or is x2 crossfired HD 5870's just overkill ?

Dual-GPU solutions are very much an enthusiast thing. I'd say I'm 90% that FFXIV won't benefit as much as other games from SLI / crossfire; it'll rely on CPU for the bulk of performance, same as any other console-PC multiplatform title.

While SE is a quality developer, their team won't want to re-code the entire engine (iirc, Crystal Tools is a heavily modified version of Unreal Engine 3) to take advantage of the PC's high-end cards - it just requires too much effort.

FFXIV aside - in order to pump enough data for dual 5870s to be effective - hitting the optimal +60% performance from the second card, one would need a serious enthusiast CPU, or overclock; i7 at 3.5ghz at the very minimum.

Someone want to design me a computer on Newegg?

Budget: $3,000, nothing too insane, though... Don't feel like dealing with water based cooling systems or anything like that. Just something epic for gaming and graphic design.

Most of the programs don't benefit much from 64 bit, so if you put more than 4 gb of ram you just wasting your moneys (Thunder your e-peen got 16 gb smaller for the price you paid) .
Amd are in the lead of mid-high range of graphics for time beeing, but Nvidia introduced new range of cards, but for now something to read about whats on the market and some benchmarks (http://www.kobaltcom...r-G860-and-G870). Remember its mobility stuff, laptops in our days are as fast as desktops, abit more expencive, but it's not the topic.
About SLI/crossfire, most of the games you see 10-15 % increase in your perfomance.
For laptops i7 820 qm is best value imo. SSD's are great if you have money to spend, i would wait for year or 2 for them.
For 3000 $ you can get nice rig, newegg.com is great, there is plenty other sites where you can get nice deals, google is your friend :)

My config in Clevo built laptop is as follows:
i7 820qm
4 gb ram tripple chanel
1 gb nvidia gtx 280m
500 gb of harddrive 7200 rpm (got few terabites of space in external drives)

Good luck shopping and remember, whatever you get, you will easy play ff14, i don't think it will be as much demanding as Crysis

I think I should be set, but I want to see what you guys think. Havnt ran the benchmark yet. Going sooner or later, too lazy to DL, but I think I will be ok.

ECS 780GM-A Motherboard
AMD Phenom II X4 940 Black Edition Socket AM2+ CPU OC'd to 3.7 GHz
Nvidia GTS 250 Graphics card(1gb)
4 GB Patriot 800MHz RAM
Kingwin LAZER 750W Power Supply
1 TB Westen Digital HDD
Soundblaster x-fi 7.1 sound card...

I think I should be fine, what do you guys think? Any response will make me happy lol.
