the 3DS -is- the next generation DS. it's going to have upgraded graphics capabilities along side the 3D. it's not just the DS gone 3d.

Yes, Nintendo is definetely ontop when it comes to sales and marketing, they have had experience with knowing what people want since the 80's. What I am talking about is purely from a hardcore gamer's perspective, it is not absolute, is just how I look at it. Nintendo has made more sales than ever, but I feel like it was at the cost of taking away one audience and bringing in another that pissed me off. Of course I cannot say that Wii has not released any awesome games at all (like I said before Zelda, Mario, Metroid, etc.), but how often is that? I see one good game come out, out of the 20 that get released. It is a simple case of lost faith in the company.

The 3DS though "does" have potential. I will have to see it before I do give a full opinion on it. But if it has Gamecube like graphics and a comfortable system to use, you will see me standing in the cold at midnight waiting to get one.

EDIT: Also I laugh at why this information was given to us before E3. A japanese reporter learned of it and Nintendo afraid that he would leak the information before E3. They decided to release the information before he got the opportunity to leak it. I read this somewhere, but a lot confirm it being true.

While I don't like nintendo's new style any more than you do, I cannot fault their marketing. They are raking in the dough, and I would do it in a heartbeat.

I'll probably pick up a 3DS. Just because while Nintendo has lot grounds in the console market, they still dominate in the handheld market. (Although Sony is giving them a run for their money.)

I do not think that Nintendo is necessarily trying to push the DSi XL, despite it having great sales right now.

what i meant, was that if someone calls in askin about it, we're supposed to push the conversation over to the dsi xl, i spent about 20 minutes a few days ago, repeatedly telling this kid, i dont know, whenever he asked stuff about the 3ds, and then i fed him info about the xl, and when i got tired of doing that, i explained to him that the information was leaked, and that the general populace, me included, werent supposed to know about it untill e3, and told him to wait till then...and after that, i kept saying i dont know, wait for e3, i also told him everything i know, can be found on nintendo.com, so if it aint on that site, i dont know about it oficially...

i also had to explain to him what e3 was...which admittedly, isnt in our database or on nintendo.com, but shit like that is likely why after my next monthly review, they're gonna consider firing me ^^ that and not plugging nintendo.com all the time

we've also been spending a lot of time pointing out that the user agreement that the people agree'd to when they decided to use the dsi shop, says that they cant transfer their data from 1 console to the other, so no, they cant take their 5 dollars worth of games from their dsi to their xl

The 3DS may feature this: http://www.engadget....arrier-display/

A glasses-less 3D display with touchscreen capability at 854 x 480 resolution made by Hitachi and Sharp.

Akihabara News went eyes-on with the display and came away impressed with the colors and brightness. Better yet, it says, "Sharp succeed to do what Sony and Panasonic does with 3D Glasses!"

Yeah, I meant I wouldn't upgrade to the next one if the 3D was the only one they offered.

Do we know if 3DS games can be played on the old DS systems yet?

You seem to be under the delusion that the 3DS is simply another DS, similar to the DSi, or the DSi XL.

Think of it as the upgrade from GBC to GBA, or GBA to DS. Maybe that will make you understand a little better?

Yeah, it sucks because the DS will be phased out and I like the system as it was (without more "innovation").

Don't know what happened above with the double posts, I thought I edited the question out because I realized what I was asking (as soon as I posted I was like "duh").

So in your mind, the DS should just remain the de-facto handheld gaming system? It should just be allowed to stagnate?

With that idea, maybe we should have stopped at the Sega Genesis, the PS1, and the Gameboy Brick..

Sheesh. the 3DS will likely play the original DS games. There is no reason NOT to work on a new DS with better graphics and new capabilities. I don't see why you're so against it.

I am with Kleiner on this one.

We do need a step up from the DS. Even though it is a good hand held system, I hated the fact that Nintendo was all up and about on saying it is a "128 bit system" when it really looks like dumbed down N64 graphics. Then again they tricked me also saying the GBA was 32-bit. Anyways, the system has been out for nearly 6 years, Nintendo is slightly bit overdue for a new system, but in all fairness, why improve on something that is still making incredible sales?

Calm down with the righteous indignation jackass, I'm not proclaiming the evils of innovation in the streets or else I wouldn't have purchased a DS in the first place (Touch screen gimmick, etc.).
