So yea, got to love it when people announce that an announcement is going to be made. <_<

http://ds.ign.com/ar.../1109320p1.html

Apparently Sep.29 or possibly before that we will find out when the 3DS is going to be released and what it will cost. If I was a betting man, I would say 200 dollars will be the price for it.

It is possible, but it would seem illogical to make your handheld more expensive then your home consoles.

Possibly confirmed specs of the Nintendo 3DS?

http://www.engadget....66mhz-arm11-pro

  • TWO 266 MHz ARM11 CPUs (one per display)
  • 133 MHz GPU (Pica200) with 4 MB dedicated VRAM; GPU capable of max speed of 400 MHz as mentioned before
  • 32 MB RAM
  • 1.5 GB Flash memory storage
  • Expandable storage with SD memory cards

To give you an idea the kind of CPU is in the 3DS (if true), one ARM11 powered the Amazon Kindle, Palm Pixi, and iPhone Original and iPhone 3G.

Compare this to the specs of other systems:

PSP
  • 333 MHz CPU
  • 333 MHz Co-processor (PSP Media engine)
  • 166 MHz GPU with dedicated 2 MB VRAM
  • 32 MB RAM (64 MB in later models); 8 MB of which is reserved for OS kernel
  • Expandable storage with MemoryStick memory cards.

Nintendo DS
  • 67 MHz ARM9 CPU (Top screen) with 656 kiB of VRAM
  • 33 MHz ARM7 CPU (Bottom screen)
  • 4 MB RAM
  • 256 kiB Flash memory storage

Nintendo Wii
  • 729 MHz (rumored) PowerPC CPU
  • 243 MHz ATI GPU with 3 MB VRAM
  • 470 MHz ARM9 CPU
  • 88 MB RAM
  • 512 MB Flash memory storage

PS2
  • 299 MHz "EE" CPU
  • 147 MHz "GS" GPU with 4 MB VRAM
  • 32 MB RAM

You can probably say it's like having a PS2 in your hands if going by specs of the PS2 itself. Games will have to be the judge of that when the 3DS comes out.

64MB of RAM not 32, same as an original Xbox. About half the resolution of a PS2 while displaying on a 3 inch screen so it should look quite a bit better than what a PS2 could put out and the screen shots shown so far reflect that, shaders are making a big difference. The 29th will probably blow people away (releasing this year, betting on it), shame I won't be getting one for quite a while though

February 26th release date in Japan for 25000 Yen, or about $300 though they stated that Nintendo of America will tell us the official price (here's hoping for 250$ instead). March release date for US and Europe.

Animal Crossing, Ocarina of Time, Chocobo Racing, Metal Gear Solid, Paper Mario were all shown.

The 3DS will have GB/GBA virtual console, with most games being offered in 3D. They showed Links Awakening DX as an example.

Supports up to 32GB SD care.

There are 2 Resident Evil games set for release on the 3DS.

They discussed a Mega Man Dash game, possibly Mega Man Legends sequel?

They could reduce it for various reasons, wishful thinking I know, but they can.

Square Enix is interested in releasing a number of titles AFTER Kingdom Hearts for the 3DS.

Yeah, but the odds are pretty low. After all you're talking about a portable PS2.

Also, 3DS is going to be region locked, which is bad news for me if they make Ouendan 3 ><

In all honesty, the price didn't surprise me.

I was expecting $250 at the lowest to $299 at highest and it hit the highest mark. People are complaining yet they don't know anything about the capabilities this handheld can do or what the technology is inside of it. The price matches the technology for once unlike something like the iPad or iPhone, which are marked up considerably.

This is the FIRST 3D-capable handheld without the need of 3D glasses. It will offer web browsing and some sort of multi-tasking out of the box. It will allow 3D pictures and videos, including 3D augmented reality capabilities. It will also have video chat and Gameboy/Gameboy Advance Virtual Store.

Nintendo is also lining up a long list of BOTH first and third party games right from launch.

If the specs I mentioned above hold true, this handheld will have CPU and GPU speeds comparable to a PS2 with graphics capabilities exceeding the Gamecube or even the Wii. The GPU itself also looks like it is capable of so much more even if it was reduced from 400 MHz to 133 MHz.

The handheld has the backing of Nintendo's name and familiarity, plus a strong history of handheld experience and games developed in-house and from third parties. This is going to be an incredible handheld and I am anxious to see what it's capable of.

I mean...it's better than a Wii right? So it makes sense to cost more than a Wii? Strictly speaking graphics, processor, etc.

Resident Evil screens, the game isn't even completed yet so it should look even better than this on release!

Top screen is 800x240 resolution and bottom is 320x240 for the system.

$300 if they're trying to compensate for the exchange rate, but they should know $250 was something a lot of people felt was a mental barrier they couldn't cross. If they feel they can do whatever they want and the 3DS will be massive regardless $300 will happen, but it would have been more convincing if this was releasing this holiday season and could ride off the hype. If they're going for $300 missing this year is a massive blow, so I'm still thinking $250 for now. Missing this year is going to cost them a lot but they already knew that, they were aiming for 2010 the whole time but something just didn't work out.

The DSi XL launched at 20000 yen and sold for $190. Pretty much all the DS handhelds have sold for more in Japan than the US so expecting $300 minimum isn't sound based off yen value alone. It'll be $300 because of the exchange rate, if that wasn't an issue $250 would be a lock. Which side it falls on can go either way, $300 and this year would have worked so well for them.

20000 yen is $239 while 25000 yen is $298, $59 difference
DSi XL sold for $190 so expecting a $100+ jump when it should be only $59 is ~
What do you know 190+59 is a nice tidy $249
I really hope people don't start freaking out when it's obvious the yen value doesn't exactly equal the amount of dollars a DS system sells for. $300 is ballsy and if they wanted to do it should have been done this year, it can happen, but they'll be in for a rough ride if they try it.

ALSO they JUST lowered the DSi and DSi XL prices this month, yeah $250 is happening, but that's also the reason why I thought they were releasing it this year and ~ Expect $250, it's madness to expect $300 even if it's somewhat possible they try it

That's exactly true. It'll be $299 in Japan but that's due to exchange rates. We must consider the value of the dollar compared to everything else.

If it comes in at $250 in the US/Canada, it'll still be within my price expectations. I won't expect this to be $200 or $199 after a year or two after release.

I'm practically excited by the concept of a glasses-free 3D gaming system since I wear glasses. Wearing 3D glasses on top of my prescription glasses (I'm nearsighted) gives me headaches and dizziness. I can't stand doing 3D technology that way, and I don't want to wear contact lenses. Hopefully without 3D glasses this will be more comforting to use and watch.

I had to go put on some new pants when I saw this.

Very excited for the launch titles, going to have to reserve all of them. Ocarina of Time looks fantastic.

So...from what I see, what we have so far is...(Do note I am mentioning the worthwhile titles from my eyes at least)

Kid Icarus: Uprising
The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D
Star Fox 64 3D
Paper Mario 3D (I assume a remake)
Megaman Legends 3 (Ohh lordy lord yes!)
Mario Kart 3DS
Resident Evil: Mercenaries
Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater 3D (Kind of random, but I completely welcome it none-the-less :D)
Nintendogs+cats
Pilot Wings: Resort(Wow haven't seen one of these in forever)
Animal Crossing 3DS
Samurai Warriors 3DS
Super Street Fighter IV 3D
Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles(?) (Looks like it from the game play)
Professor Layton and the Mask of the Miracle

There is a lot more and feel free to add them in if so, but these are games officially announced with screenshots and some videos. This is an extremely nice line up and excited that a nice chunk of this list are launch titles.

It is a shame though that the 3DS is region locked, so won't be ordering it from Japan, ohh well, I can wait an extra month, would still be better if they decided to push it back a month, but ohh well, Japan almost always gets Nintendo products before us, so nothing new. I am also happy to see that the system is going to have it's own Virtual Console store. I really hope they put some N64 titles in there. Would be cool to play Majora's Mask on it, even though it won't be graphically remade like OoT is.

Nintendo is pretty much going to be even more dominant than before in the handheld market unless Sony can put a step up over it with the PSP2. Well, lets see what happens in March. ;)
