I've been leveling Dragoon cause it's straight up there with jobs I have fun on alongside Ranger. I've heard lots of mixed opinions on the job, including someone who told me not to even bother leveling the job cause it sucks End Game, but I was wondering everyone else's personal opinions about the job? What are your most used/favorite subjobs for it? Do you think it solo's well? I'm only 41, but I personally feel like soloing on DRG pre-af helmet is pointless. Healing Breathe III is great and all, but as a taru having to wait until I'm 180/450 hp is like I'm tasting the floor already. I've also had a DRG75 tell me that DRG sucks at soloing. Then I had a friend who was low level DRG tell me he thought DRG solo was amazing (I hate him. . .pre-helmet soloing just sucked for me). I wanna talk some dragoon talk. Let's hear it :3

DRG soloes good, DRG does okay in endgame, DRG does good in merit parties.

I don't really end-game much anymore, but there are times when I've been asked to come DRG rather than BLM. (Odin is all I really do and BLM sucks at that)

Soloing is good, but you'll definitely want the Wyrm Armet or Saurian helm, on top of the AF helm, to essentially have Healing Breath IV. I still haven't gotten either of them and my taru HP scares me at times.

I think Freya is the superior DRG compared to Kain.

Endgame is to broad to call any job useless for it. Regardless everyone likes Angon.

This person is either a complete idiot or means DRG cannot solo NMs (it can but no where near the level of NMs BLM/RDM/etc can solo).

Haha, I hear you on the HP scare. Wyrm Armet is definitely on the top of my list as well, but that's obviously down the road for me. The only thing I'm really not sure about is the body piece I would say. I know you mostly wear Scorpion Harness 57+ and you're able to get an Assault Jerkin 67+, but as a taru I'm not sure if that's the absolute best idea with the -1% HP (Taru's need all the HP they can get after all. . .). I have the Nuevo body with Attack and Accuracy +10 on it for 75. . .I'm thinking maybe that's the best body to use and just say screw it I'll SH up til 75?

That 1% is hardly worth caring about since you macro +Hp gear for breaths anyways. If anything, it helps to have that -1% HP.

I'd say that DRG is third best at soloing for EXP once you get Drachen Armet. Even better with Wyrm Armet or Saurian Helm.

Endgame..
Sky Gods: Angon is awesome. Wheeling Thrust is decent. Jump hate away. Wyvern does meh damage, but it adds up, little bastard is accurate and seems to never hit for 0 unless invincible is up.
Sea Gods: Good for some. I mainhealed the DD party for uhh.. Jailer of Justice and Hope. Some you just don't melee at all, so DD are rather useless.
Sky/Sea Farming: Can use Drakesbane again, so yay good damage. Faust and a few other NMs shouldn't be meleed.
Einherjar: Just as good, if not better than other DD's. Angon and Spirit Surge Jumps shine for Boss Zerging.
Limbus: Just as good, if not better than other DD's. Omega and Ultima are pie.
Dynamis: See Einherjar.
HNM: Uhh.. Pretty much interchangeable with other DD's. Again, Angon is the shit. Of course, there are some that meleeing is hazardous for, so clearly you'd be rather useless.

Personal experience with DRG is basically:
HNM: If you can melee it and don't want to tank, DRG is amazing for this.
Solo: Anything that won't one shot you from about 60% HP, you can solo.
Limbus/Dyna/Ein: Pretty good overall; doesn't really shine compared to other DDs but Angon is awesome when applicable.

Thanks for the input guys. I'm definitely going to take this job to 75 then. I had a feeling the guy who was DRG75 and telling me the job was pretty much worthless for solo and End Game didn't know what he was talking about, but I always enjoy getting multiple feedback so I can be 100% sure. This job sounds like it's going to be really fun once it hits 75.

i already see a DRG 40+ who don't know wyvern can heal.
I'm pretty some DRG75 don't know they can heal.
When i see a DRG75/DNC37 for farming or solo EP , i really doubt this DRG know wyvern can heal .

I met a DRG the other day who came /WHM on a merit pt to backup heal but he only used Cures... he had no idea what healing breath was...
I took time to explain him how it worked but this was hard to believe that someone can get 75 and have no idea how it works...
