Is it just me or is anyone else sick of this matrix like scifi shit FF has been leaning to? 90% of the monsters in 13 are robotic in some way. When you get to Gran Pulse it lightens up a little but the overall revolving theme is scifi. I didn't mind in FF7 or FF8 where they were definately fantasy with some nifty technology here and there. I DO NOT LIKE FIGHTING ROBOTIC DOGS OR CHINCHILLA SHITS. Come on Square Enix cut it the fuck out. It's like Resident Evil and their parasite things instead of Zombies. GIVE ME BACK MY FANTASY! Lost Odyssey shits on 13 in my opinion as far as story and style go. FF13 is a good time passer but thats it. It's getting sold after I beat the game.

Edit:

Oh yeah. Shiva turning into a motorcycle...what the fuck... Bahamut...nuff said.....Odin turns into a robot pony? STOP IT! This is not Transformers, Summons in disguise. Give me a break with that shit. I'm suprise they didn't do a power ranger thing. OH MY GOD ALEXANDER TURNED INTO THE FEET etc etc. meh

No offense dude but everything you want that game to be has already been done in 12 other FF's and besides if you're actually going for 100% trophies/achievements, you will spend more time on gran pulse than anything else.

There is only 2 things I personally had a problem with, Behemoth over-usage and nearly committing suicide every-time I had to play with Hope in my party.

Also @ the RE comment, I miss zombies ;; but 'least these parasite's heads are still as squishy.

The theme of Final Fantasy is well, fantasy. Fantasy does not mean medieval. So when you look at it, Final Fantasy has always delivered in that department. You are also apparently forgetting about FFIX, X(sorta), XI, and XII. I wouldn't go ape shit over SE just because they decided to go with a theme you did not like.

Please do me a favor next time you speak, don't sound like a damn retard next time you decide to post something, at least sound like you have some form of intelligence. I am not saying I am the best at experssing my opinion, but this way is just road kill.

12 doesnt count for that, it was like a spin off from star wars.

I understand the want for some games to be sci fi ish but be nice to do something like IX was for the next game.

I also think VIII gave a good mix to both themes.

How does 12 not count as fantasy? Even Star Wars can be lightly considered fantasy.

I really hate this "It's a rip off of Star Wars" mentality people have about FFXII -- especially considering FFXIII has the exact same level of technology and uses it, for the most part, in exactly the same way...

Meanwhile, Science Fiction is just a specialized subgenre of "Fantasy", to be honest. Beyond that, Final Fantasy has had science fiction elements since Day 1. It's kind of bad to complain about it now as if its something new.

Final point being, if you altered the scenes in FFXIII so that the world were driving cars and riding motorcycles instead of oddly-designed flying bikes and planes, it would pretty much be the same as the world form Final Fantasy VII and VIII. So explain to me how VIII gets the title of "perfect mix" when it comes to genres.

Final Fantasy is ridiculously consistent with the mix of High Fantasy and Science Fiction as a series, I find it hilarious how everytime a game comes out it gets crowned as the being "too different" when it's comparable to most of the other games...FFXIII wasn't that amazing, but it's really not worthy of all the complaints either.

If they had made it with knights and swords and crap then you'd have a bunch of other dudes crying about it not being futuristic enough. You can't please 'em all at the same time. Just look forward to the next installment and hope it's in old-times or something. Seems to be a thing with SE where they make a final fantasy in futuristic settings and some in the past settings, and then there's some that just have a bit of both. You even brought up Lost Odyssey as a counter-point, and it's like...they had futuristic stuff in that one, too lol. (not a slam on Lost Odyssey though, cuz I freakin' love that game)

Alright my post isn't the most concise but the point I'm trying to make is that crying about it won't change anything, you might as well enjoy the game or stop playing. You knew how futuristic this game was from the previews, assuming you watched any of them...if so you kinda knew what you were getting when you bought/rented the game. Personally, I hate racing games so I don't play them. I don't go and play them then come to the boards and cry about how much I don't like them.

I will admit I'm a fan of a more standard fantasy based setting (Swords, magic, etc.) than the futuristic setting in 13. I won't complain about that, however in a way it feels like FF13 took a step back in some areas from all the reviews I heard.

Also... Seriously? Trying to compare Star Wars to a FF because the heros are rebels opposing an empire? Not like that concept was original when Star Wars did it.

Yeah, I accredit the entire argument to sheer ignorance. It's a shame to imagine that down the line people will do this kind of thing with other games/movies/media, but you just know one day kids are going to be comparing movies that come out stuff like Avatar and talking about how they ripped off the story the way Avatar used the same premise as Dances with Wolves. Meanwhile, Dances with Wolves could be linked to tons of different novels for its story roots....

Guess you can't blame someone for not knowing better.

Wowza, I'm not saying I want all goblins, dungeons, and dragoncock smuggling but at the same time I do not want robot dogs, behemoths every other fight, or shiva turning into a motorcycle. They found a balance for me in 7 and 8 where there were clearly advanced towns, and then some basic. I enjoyed the concept of the airship and traveling around. Also, if it took a rocket scientist to realize this was my opinion then that's equally as fucked up. MOVING ON. All I'm asking is that SE finds a medium in the road. Do I think FF10 was too scifi? No I don't so don't include that, or 9. They weren't my favorites by any means but they were good enough. Also, I LOVE Lost Odyssey where did you get I don't like it from? I want to make sweet love to that game. It had a very good story, good character development, music, battle system, very unique.

Haha. You said dragoncock...

But I do have to agree; this is not Transformers, Summons in Disguise. When I read that, I laughed out loud because it is true. I feel that the game has its ups and it has its downs (personally, more downs than ups). Perhaps I agree that Final Fantasy should be more like it's old school roots with kingdoms, sword play, magic, and possibly lack of technology / futuristic. Yes, I did like VII, but they did incorporate a mixture of futuristic (Shinra's Electric Company) and realistic.

I feel that Square-Enix had it right when they made IV and VI, personally. Do I hope to see one again in the future? Of course. However, we don't know what the next concept idea is and will wait to see (we already know what XIV is going to be like, so obviously I'm talking about XV. :P)

^ my point all i can say is SE should shift back for the other fans, last few been more on si fi.
I liked the mix themes the best how they can blend the technology there and still "fitting in" with what you expect to see from midevel time. concpets like making airships run on mist, avatars that make you forget your memories for power and such, I like creative concepts that i never seen before. I would not mind an offshoot of a remo and jullet storyline and such because i know new idea bin is getting smaller so the creativeness comes from how to mix them up. Maybe I wouldn't mind a star wars parallel but the chr development needs to be a bit deeper -.-

I am sure star wars is not the first but it is the most popular. So it is easy to refence that as apposed to w/e star wars got themes like that from.

there is a lot of parallels to star wars and FFXII, i hate fan boys that try to argue otherwise acting like FF is all perfect.

Unlike Vaan, Luke Skywalker actually contributed to the story.

It's not about being perfect. 90% of the parallels between Final Fantasy 12 and Star Wars can be drawn to any of the other games as well. I'm not denying similarities, but pointing them out in FF12 like it's the only game in the series is another biased fanboyism people use to rag on the game because they didn't like it.

Balthier is a copy of a gay man from a movie. That was london based. They have the same hair,, clothing, everything and talk the same. Which I found funny when I first saw 12. Also people keep forgetting its 4 versions of final fantasy 13. This is the first one its sci fi the second is more like a gangster type, the next one is a cali blonde moron type look. The last one was suppose to be one you can play with friends. However its not a MMO.
