To level to 99 or not?

I know the update is a few months away, but I've asked a few people about their jobs, and shockingly some people aren't going to get all their 75s to 99.
On the list of "not going to be 99s" were rng, drk, nin, drg, and dnc.
Main reason people said these jobs were that other jobs can solo better, and lets be honest, rng, specifically, can output dmg, but is always considered 2nd best in most situations where a DD is needed to do fast and major dmg, while taking on the hits.
So my questions is, will you consider rng as a 99 job?
Personally, I love rng, but is a 99 rng really worth it? This question will be hard to answer because no update yet, but get creative lol

Im definitely going to take it to 80 to take advantage of my octave club, and then eventually im going to level it up along with the level cap as a ranged DD because i refuse to level a mage.

the posisitby with new gear and new ws can turn our wold upside down on what the OP job will be.
I want to take up cor, brd, blm, sch, rng, sam, and war, then maybe others. I would level the job of the month before others though.
I hate to level dnc more, it "solos" too slow I personally dont like it I rather party for most of exp.
I was spamming campin on my dnc then hoped on drg because i wanted to play with a new toy and i was like "wow its dead already?" so yeah.....

You can't zerg the best.
That's far from being a bad damage dealer. You're still the best physical dmg at HNMs by far.
And you still decimate at certain zergs (DL)

I'm still debating on it. Not sure when FFXIV or WoW Cata will be released but i'm sure i'll play either of those instead if they come out first.

We use rng on non-zergable HNM that are highly resistant to magic dmg (ixion, yilbegan, odin). I'll take RNG and BLM to 99 and I'll have a viable DD for most fights. Being rotated out of the ally to get TP as a 2H sounds like teh suck and RNG will still do quite well at most zergs (seems like well geared DD beat out the shitty geared ones regardless of job... go figure). I'll also take WHM to 99 because I <3 it. I think you should level what you enjoy. The best thing about the 99 level cap is that I can leave bard at 75. :3

What would make me avoid lvling rng to 99:
- Oricalchum/Imperial Wootz Bullet/Bolt/Arrows
I may be whining, but if you don't think it's a big deal, I doubt you've ever had to upgrade salvage pieces.

A lot of your self-determined value in zergs is based on how badly you want to build a zerg setup. My biggest competition - the guys who outdmg me on zergs, are full haste/hp build drks with multi-hits like merc kris or b zag. Even then i'm not too far behind. Not many rng out there have things like deadeye earring or fire ring (when applicable) for these zerg situations.
many "rng" can't even be bothered to max merit a combat skill, let alone 2 of them for the same job.

I'd like to echo this. After the KC DRKs, the next highest damage dealers would always be one of our pimped out WAR/SAMs, a RNG/WAR, or me just swinging away a scythe at capped haste. Very occasionally, a MNK/WAR or /DRK would hit the top 3. In all the Kirin zergs I've parsed, I've never seen a SAM break the top 3.
Sidewinder, Barrage, Sidewinder, EES, Icarus Wing >>> Sidewinder can spit out a disgusting amount of damage in a very short amount of time. The only zergs I've seen SAMs excel at are those without adequate support, but if you're zerging without BRD and/or COR rolls it's not much of a zerg...

SAM is better for HNM
Equal levels of competency and gear (relative to the ideal), Ranger will destroy Samurai on...
1. Khimaira
2. Dark Ixion
3. King Behemoth
4. Odin
5. Yilebegan
6. Pandemonium Warden
7. Most of the Fomor Kings
8. Zirnitra
And most likely tie on Cerberus

Lots of truth here. I can't recall ever being out-done by a Sam on anything on my Rng. Too bad I retired the job because I had more fun with Cor.

Gekko says hi
And the SAMs you play with must suck ass. Either that or they're dead / no support whatsoever.
Same goes for zergs. SAM can either Penta or Gekko spam, or do what you do a lot better with Sidewinder spam + Soboro.

Sounds like someone can't stand being wrong.
I've played with some very good Sams and they still didn't parse up. I guess playing smart makes jobs shine, eh?

Gekko is only better than Slugwinder without proper support, which makes your followup statement really ironic; SAM wins a lot of competitions because they are much less reliant on support for damage.

SAM Sidewinder spam is never equivalent to RNG in a zerg, sorry.
And in zerg situations where players are fully buffed and mobs are heavily debuffed, Penta and Gekko will get stomped out by Slug. Am I supposed to be impressed by a 5-hit WS from a D86 polearm when I'm firing a 5.0 fTP WS from a D140 gun?

this is part of the problem. all too often you see "rng" bringing gear to zergs that isn't dedicated to high damage for JAs/WS. e-bow when you can use culverin, for example (assuming equal amounts of combat skill available). i'm a firm believer that longbow has no place in a true zerg setting any more than a soboro does.
